J. Hückel´s Söhne Standard "Loden" possibly late 1920s. Felt is a mix of colors with a rougher natural finish and easily dry creases. Wide Band / Bow with a blind stitch Over Welt. This hat is from my May 2016 NOS Czech find.

Great over all shape and wonderful looking felt, Steve. A stand out bow treatment, too.

Oh boy! I love everything about that hat. They do not make them like that anymore.

I have a vintage Nutria Stetson, late 40s-early '50s. It's not smooth like Beaver but it's still a good durable felt. A vintage Nutria is definitely worth adding to a collection. I'd like to have a couple more, actually.

I don’t think that comparing current nutria from Sunrise with vintage nutria felt from Stetson and others is very useful. What’s nice is that Gannon now has personal experience with this current nutria as well as Winchester’s beaver. Michael can answer your questions steer you one way or the other based his own observations and based on what type of hat you want. I love all my custom nutria hats, but I’d chose beaver for most fedoras…except for the colors: zero regrets on commissioning this midnight blue.

I get it now. More durable, I guess that's why you see it on those vintage western style hats. It probably does make a good winter hat. The blue Gannon fedora from the pictures looks great as a dress hat. I'll check in with Michael and get his take on nutria when I get the itch for one of his new creations.

Not only for Winter. My vintage Nutria started out as a "Oppenheimer" style hat.

I would honestly love to have more vintage Nutria hats to add to my collection...

Even though it was a Western the felt is also thin and light enough to be a fedora for Spring and Summer wear. I really like these vintage Nutrias.

Coloring up for late October here in New England with this Custom Hatter of Buffalo (NY) by Gary White. I grabbed two hats from Gary some years ago when he had a small quantity of Borsalino blanks with manufactured brim edges. He only had two (slim-brims) in my size, so the choice was easy as long as I didn’t mind the tiny brims.
