Pork Pie hats were somewhat disparaged today on another thread, so I chose to wear one of mine for an evening walk this evening.

Anton Pichler Graz, possibly 1930s. This Wool Stiff Felt has a sharp looking Form. The Liner is very interesting with its use of a vertical black band with white horizontal white pleating. I haven't seen anything like it before. I found this Wool Stiff Felt back in 2016.

Indulging myself with the Leifur by Hufvud again. My collection is small, so it's easy to wear it at least once a week. It is definitely brown under fluorescents, but in daylight the felt comes alive in a dazzling array.

It is comfortable today here on the East Side, as we Seattle-area folks refer to our side of Lake Washington, but tomorrow the gal and I head across the Cascades to Eastern Washington so we can ride the new Alpine Coaster in Leavenworth, WA. Supposed to be 96 degrees F there tomorrow. Yikes.

Navy Blue Biltmore Millennium Collection seemed the appropriate choice to see Boy George and Culture Club in concert with Howard Jones and Berlin, last night.

Here we are during the hour and a half storm delay.

The delay did not diminish the show put on by these three amazing bands! Who made up for it by playing well past midnight. George’s hats appear to be custom for him… his guitar players long hair open crown appeared to be Borsalino or Barbisio based on the ribbon logo. Oh and.. WOW… Howard Jones is a tremendous performer!

Good morning.

An early morning walkabout in a VS. This dove beaver felt was inspired by the Stetson Stratoliner. I added the red-orange sun pics in a couple of the hat collages as it is wild looking in person. Ominous is the adjective that comes to my mind this morning.

Home and a hat change to a Gannon to enjoy morning coffee. This granite beaver felt looks very vibrant in the cloudy, hazy (from Canadian forest fires) morning. The glorious 60'F temps make the morning a perfect time to be up early.

My hats get worn and the liners, even with care, show staining over time. My bald head accelerates the "patina" process.

I puttered about in the yard and changed to a Gannon fedora (natural beaver felt with gills). This hat has gotten some hard effort as the ribbon treatment is stained and the sweat will need a replacement sometime this coming year.

For a quick trip to get fuel for the garden tiller and lawn mower I changed to a Gannon (bone beaver felt with a matching ribbon and sage green accent).

This hat needs some steam and brushing. With my recent outings, "harder wear," the brim shows some "cracking." The "cracking" occurs with many brim snap downs and tugging on and off. The brim edge (at the edge of the crown) andall the way to the brim edge needs a buncg of steam and some hard brushing to get the hat back to a smooth flat surface. I also see on some of my custom hats that the steam and brushing makes the entire hat body "smoother" to the eye and touch. After wear, rain/snow the nap of the felt apears more pronounced.

Like many of you, I wear my hats and the hat maintenance is expected. To my spouses eye the hats pre maintenance appear the same as post.

Cheers, Eric -
