I know, I know, Straw Hat Day and all that. Truth is, I jumped the gun and wore a Milan to dinner last night. No pics, though.

But I wanted to wear this Gannon for Mass today.

Driving home last night, I saw for the first time what Ronnie James Dio sung about, a rainbow in the dark.

A beautiful Gannon, Jim. Love the colours. A wonderful match to the photo of last night's evening sky.

Saturday afternoon we went for a little hike to see the wildflowers in bloom, I wore my trusty Akubra Stockman. It was a terrific afternoon for a hike.

Then my new "straw" hat for yard work, hanging out around the house and making burgers for dinner tonight. Happy Straw Hat day everyone!

I wore a very modern Mühlbauer straw earlier today not knowing it was Straw Hat Day in the USA.
To honour the 15th of May, I decided to go for an evening stroll in this 1920s/30s Boater.
Happy Straw Day folks.

Stevens Pace Setter - The Royalist
Blue Grey Felt - Early 1960-ish
4 3/4 Crown as shaped
1 1/4 Stylish Ribbon
2 1/4 Brim with bound edge

This blue grey Stevens gives a glimpse into the quality and styling Stevens Hats was producing in the decade leading up to being granted the license for producing all the Stetson hats in the US. It caught my eye as being almost mint shape with a neato ribbon treatment and this very cool Stevens ribbon hanger size tag. It came in a couple days ago and today I had the time to clean it up. Not that it really needed much…. A good brushing released plenty of dust… and some steam to smooth out a few spots and tweak the crease. Silly me I managed to drop the hanger tag while I was steaming and not realize it till after a rain storm ran me off the patio. Found it in a puddle afterwards. I think it will survive though. There are a few very small moth nibbles here and there. But overall a very clean hat and I really like the styling. It gets the honor of being the first hat photographed against the newly painted wall. Out with the orangy-yellow “bran muffin” and in with “Dormer Brown”

Great photo Edward, you are almost peering over the rim of your specs, I'm sure that's an academic look. My headteacher used to do that, and the stare...............................pure napalm.
(Loving "The Chap" logo.)

Thanks! Yes... I think all academics practice that look at some point.... ;) Here, I'm probably trying to focus on the phone. My optician wants to put me in bifocals / varifocals asap; I'm resisting until I actually feel the need of them at my desk. In this case, it's not vanity, it's the very marked increase in price (which I think is their main driver to try and get me in 'em!).
