What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Greetings hat lovers!

I have a minute to post while waiting in Appleton, WI to deliver this load of gypsum.

The last time I was home, I opted to trade in the Gannon for my SE Asia FED IV and this guy has not disappointed me out here on the road. Actually, he just keeps getting better and better the more dirt, sweat and asphalt I throw at him!

He now has a toothpick from Thailand, vent holes from Malaysia, and a bit of blue thread decoration from my mother's sewing closet. I removed the liner a few years back, and I now reckon this guy is on his way to being the perfect beater.

PS, they made me a driver trainer and I am picking up my second student today. I'll be spending the next 3-4 weeks showing the new guy how to operate and live on the road. I won't have much time for posting but I will try to keep up with the hat parade when I can.

Beaters with character are the best! We dont worry about them so they get worn a lot. Way better than a pristine vintage hat in the box that never sees the light of day and never gets any head time

Dropped five hat boxes on my head pulling out my one and only Stratoliner this morning. Time to start a new stack. No hats were harmed in the making of this picture.


Stetson Stratoliner. Not particularly vintage, but fun to wear. A nice sturdy hat with a classic profile. I like this one.

A design choice or a factory screw up? I am wearing a Stetson Royal Deluxe with an interesting brim binding. As you can see from the photos, the stitching under the brim is in the wide, Whippet style, while the topside of the brim has the thin binding of a dress hat with the stitching for the underbrim showing through. Thoughts?

That is interesting. I can’t think of a reason why they would do that on purpose. You should send it to me for closer inspection. ; )

There's one way to fit into smaller hats... Go bald!

I went from a small 7 3/8 to a large 7 1/8-small 7 1/4 when my hair thinned out enough that I just decided to start shaving it.

I'm a big believer in using what you have! I hate the idea of having "Safe Queens", whether we're talking about watches, ******s/*****s, or hats. lol
