So which show do you think best defines each of the decades 1930-50? Which ones would you have to listen to if you were magically transported back. For me, 1930: Amos and Andy, 1940: Fibber, 1950: You Bet Your Life.

How about it?

Interesting question -- if I had to pick programs to define the zeitgeist of particular eras, it might go something like this:

Early '30s -- Amos 'n' Andy
Mid '30s -- Fleischmann's Yeast/Royal Gelatin Hour (Rudy Vallee)
Late '30s -- Jack Benny

Early '40s -- One Man's Family
Mid '40s -- Bob Hope Show
Late '40s -- Adventures of Sam Spade

Early '50s -- The Big Show
Mid '50s -- Gunsmoke
Late '50s -- X Minus One

Here's what I'd be tuning in to...

20's - Coon-Sanders Nighthawks

early 30's - Kraft Music Hall with Paul Whiteman
mid 30's - Harry Richman Show or Fred Waring Ford Dealers Program
late 30's - The Shadow

early 40's - Edgar Bergen/Charlie McCarthy Show
mid-to-late 40's - The Whistler

early 50's - The Big Show or You Bet Your Life
