Definatly go for a hat jack. I own 2 of em and I keep them gently in any hat I am not going to wear for a while. They also help break in a new hat very well. I have the same problem...I am in between a 60 and a 61 so my Akubras need to be streched a little. The hat jack gets the job done...

SWEET HAT!!! My only felt Stetson is a 4X. The 7X must be really fine! I have to ask, did you steam the hat to put all those creases in it?? If not it truly is an amazingly malleable hat.

I have to recommend a Tilley T3. It isn't as classy as an Akubra but it is the best sailing hat out there.

NICE LID!! Looks like a good choice. Don't worry about the gap. Wear the hat day in and day out and it will conform to your head. Having a hat that is too tight is a much bigger problem IMHO. That is where a hat jack comes in, it cuts down on break in time and can save you some literal...
