It seems they did that a lot in the old days...
Over the last couple years, when I rented movies from the 40's and 50's, I've noticed that many of the actors grabbed their hats from the pinch in the front and not the brim, as is taught to be the proper method (just watch Jimmy Stewart in some...
Try the 180's...
I got some of the 180's ear warmers/muffs back in Dec. when I was downtown Chicago. The wind chill temps were down in the single digits and the ears stayed pleasantly warm. After about 45 mins. though the pressure on the ears caused one or both to sort of sting from blood...
Great come-backs!
I especially like the one of doing a Thurston Howell III imitation...I'm still grinning....:D :eusa_clap

Good question...
I think you'd look fine in either black or dark gray. You'll be distinguished just by wearing a nice hat. Keep up the good work.

I found the store!
The store I visited was Batsakes Hats. It looks like they were forced to move though (http://www.citybeat.com/1999-02-25/news2.shtml). Anyway, they are still listed in the yellowpages.
Good luck.

Downtown Cinncy...
I lived in Dayton for about 3 years ('94-'97). While there, my wife and I made an overnight trip to downtown Cinncy. I can't remember the name of the store or exact location, but there was a hat store right downtown Cinncy, as of about 10 years ago. Reasonable selection if...
There once was a hat shop...
Many, many moons ago there used to be a hat shop (Dan's Hat Shop) right in downtown Champaign, near the police station, if I recall correctly. I was in there once or twice. Alas, I think it closed in the early or mid 1980's.[huh]
Maybe I missed the post about the updates, but I was wondering where the travelling hat might be. Is there a special place to post udates?
Just wonderin'...

Stetson website...what gives?
I had been on the Stetson website (http://www.stetsonhat.com/dress.htm) a couple months ago, but was rather surprised to see they didn't list but a few of their hats. Why?
A local men's clothing store had the latest Stetson catalog for their fedoras and is was...
One on Stetson from Amazon...
Here's one on Amazon about Stetson:

A name for the hat?
I put forth the suggestion that the hat be given a name. I think it only fair that the donor of the hat get first dibs on dreaming up a moniker.

More ideas needed on documentation...
How about some ideas on how we would document this hat's travels?
Would we keep a log book or log sheet with the hat? How would we know who to send it to next?
This is gettin' interesting...

"Carpe ductum"- seize...
Just like the old days...
I was reading the book "Hatless Jack" (the one mentioned several times over here at the Lounge) that it was sort of a craze back in the early part of the 1900's to send your hat on trips around the world. I think it's a great idea.
Where do we go from here...
Neat hats...
I was watching the series "Foyles War" here in the states on PBS. I was also lusting after the hats, and admiring the vintage clothing. British producers almost always do a better job than Hollywood when it comes to details in historic shows. Thanks for mentioning those sites...
Why sure.....
I voted yes. What?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s the worse that could happen? People might actually develop a taste for hats, fine or otherwise. I feel that the supply of GOOD hats could only get better. During the heyday of hats, a lot of crappy, cheap hats were made. They didn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t survive to...
Just got my first fedora...
I got a new Stetson fedora about 5-6 weeks ago. Never had one before. My three girls (oldest 15) thought is was very cool and insisted on trying it on. My wife thought is was kinda classy. My little boy thought I looked like a detective (there's a stereotype for...
That's it...
I don't own it, but the title and description suggest it might work as a starter volume. Maybe a little Christmas shopping for myself...

Try this one...
I came across this hat retailer's site which lists some books on hats. Most of them appear to relate to women's fashion, but if you scroll way down the list, there is a book about men's hats. In fact, I may get that one myself...
More pics of the car, please!
Nice hat. How about some more pics of the car?

Came across a post that showed a picture of a fedora and listed a feature about a "tether" that could be fastened to another article of clothing (such as a shirt or jacket?) for especially windy days to keep one's lid from blowing away if it flew off your noggin, and avoid the terrible fate of...
