Clooney's Casino

Saw this on IMDB.com's (Internet Movie Database) news today, and it sounds interesting:
Clooney's New Casino Takes Las Vegas Back 50 Years
George Clooney hopes to take revelers back in time when he opens his new Las Vegas, Nevada casino, because he wants it to be the type of venue his late aunt Rosemary Clooney would have played in her heyday. The smooth movie star admits he's a huge fan of big band era venues that catered for crooners and the swinging stars of yesteryear - and he wants to recreate that in Sin City. He explains, "We have this romantic vision of putting on a suit, getting dressed up and going down to the casino and having a big band playing, having dinner and pushing the tables back and people dancing. It's the way I grew up watching (aunt) Rosemary sing at those places. I found some people who are crazy enough to let us get away with it." The new casino complex, Las Ramblas, is set to open at Christmas 2007.

Another reason to like George Clooney, in my book. It sounds like he's got a good approach to this. I'm not a big fan of Las Vegas, but this is a place I might want to visit. Now, if they can only convince people to dress up for the place! :)

Thanks for the link, Chad. I wish his success with it, especially if he goes with the dress code. We need more places like that!

Awsome, I love that idea, I was acually considering it when a friend and I were discussing casino themes. All Clooney needs is a little mob action, some drunks (Frank and Dean) and he is set. ;) Good work Clooney!!

I am not a drunk but I could drink a little and look drunk if I get to hang around a while. How much do they pay, how much can I drink and what brands? :p
A dress code would be the right way to go. You have a couple heavies at the door who look everyone over and toss out the dunces in wifebeaters and shorts. "Come back when you're dressed like a man not a kid in knee pants!" ;) :p

Regards to all,

I worked at the Horseshoe Casino back in '60 and, although it wasn't the '50s, there was still some glamor there. My wife and I were married in The Little White Chapel in '62 (Still there!). We haven't been back since the glitz got to hard to bear, but may have to see Clooney's take on Veagas. Here is an old snapshot I took of my wife standing in front of the sign advertising the show we saw that night. Nat King Cole! What a show!

Capt, thats cool. I lived in Vegas in right after I got outta the Corps 77 78. Worked at the Hacienda as a security guard. That was when Fremont St was two way traffic and no cover over the downtown. It musta been allot different in the 60s.

I'm a big fan of his aunt. What a marvelous voice!
I knew they were close and always wondered if she had an effect on his taste in music.
Seems like she did.
I'd love to go,sounds like a great tribute to his Aunt Rosemary.

Allen,"Glitter Gulch" was indeed cool before they "Disneyfied" the place with that ridiculous canopy. The Horseshoe was known as the place where locals came to gamble. I came close to being on the security force there. I nailed some mook (my boss said, "Get him!" and we did what he said) and I was asked if I wanted to be in security. I started the process, but my wife-to-be couldn't stand the heat in Vegas, so I came back to San Diego County and got on the Fire Department. I retired after twenty-five years.

Capt. I used to play at the 4 Queens and the Horseshoe. They were my two favorite places to play. Single deck Blackjack. I was there in 1997 and I didn't recognize the place. Fremont Street an mall with a roof over it. Mt Charleston was still nice though but the strip was just nuts and from what I hear its worse now. Non of the old charm.
I bet it was real nice in the 60s. The Horseshoe was a nice place. I had a girl friend that was a dealer at the Fremont. Those were some crazy days.

There is one guy who's looking for a new hidey-hole. :)

But as an aside I just heard that Mr. Clooney has gotten a hold of the rights to Magnum P.I.
