It was bright and sunny in our fair city this morning. Temperatures would range between the mid 60's and low 70's. But it was chilly out so I decided to don my used GW A-1 in Capeskin, jeans (casual Friday you know), knit polo from "Hemmings Motor News", Ray Ban's and Biltmore (Poor man's Akubra) brim down. Despite being hobbled by a groin pull the last week I was feeling pretty good until I ran into "HIM"...

Every office, every organization has one. The floor idiot, the town fool... the village maroon. There's a guy on the other side of the office floor that's basically harmless but still must be considered our village idiot... Just my luck we met at the office door. He took one look at me and hollered...

"Look it's Indiana Jones!"

Now there are enough photo's of me scattered about here for all concerned to know that I bear NO resemblance to Harrison Ford's mythical adventurer.... I do own an Indy but I got it in BLACK so I could avoid any such allusion... I wear my Fedoras "brim up" or "Black Country Style" for that purpose alone. Yet this.... cretin.. this bumpkin... this eeeediot ruins was promised to be a wonderful day with that crack. I didn't hit the guy... (they got laws against hitting the mentally infirm in my State) but I did shoot him the look of death to which he replied "wha?"

I now want to go home and burn every Fedora and brimed hat I own... Bastiche! Talk me down off'n the ledge folks... help..... me!

One reason I hate wearing A-2's in public. If I had $1 for every Indy crack, I'd buy a new jacket.
Just shows the average Joe is a schmuck.

Not much to be done but... keep it moving,
although I might walk down to the staff lunch room and eat his lunch from the refrigerator.

I just say thanks and move on. If nobody makes a big deal out of it, the idiot goes away with his tail between his legs and feels stupid. And hey, don't belittle the Biltmore,it's a great hat with a proud heritage! (unfortunately bought out by DP and moved out of Canada, but that's another story).

Keep smilin', Brian

If this upsets you, you are in need of some serious anger management methinks.

Rudie there's been no actual outburst violent or verbal, he's simply venting about it here. Of course, as you and your playful German sense of humour are no doubt fully aware Wolfy is ripping the pee pee. But assuming he was indeed a little bit angered by the doofus in question, then I'd say this outlet for it constitutes very controlled 'anger management' - don't you think?

Don't let it ruin your day Worf. Most of us have encountered our town/office idiots. It comes with the territory.
I'm glad to read you at least shot him the look of death! Maybe that gave him a reason to think about his stupid comment.

My favourite and INSTANTLY delivered retort:

"And you look like a bucket of $hit!"

That tends to shut them right up - I admit, it's gruff and not like me at all, but really. If you can't say something positive, then just be quiet and look like everyone else. Some sheeple.

From time-to-time, my girlfriend likes to remind me that World War Two is over. I understand - and I couldn't care less. For some inexplicable reason, my jackets feed my soul and I feel most like myself in my jackets. I'll compromise (as all good relationships are built on that) - and not wear my B2 hats in winter when I'm out with her and instead opt for a Buzz watch cap instead and keep the look toned down - but that's it. As Popeye said, "I ams what I ams". She knew I had this thing going when she met me so it's not new.

As for the idiot: Consider the source of the comment. Look who's making it. Therefore it bears no weight.
Walk your own path your way, Worf. Keep the faith.

Ah yes, it's the office setting. My standard retort is a bit gruff there for non-strangers.

I'd go with: "Shouldn't you be shopping in Walmart? Why don't you go and buy something else that says Made In China on the label and support a dictatorial communist state that gladly tramples on the rights of people and animals and undermines our economy? Me? No thanks. I choose to shop American."

I can see it now:
Floor idiot, to the company manager: "Boss, that mean Indiana Jones guy over there just told me I had to join a secretarial commune in another state, maybe even in China, and learn to take dictation for Walmart!!"

When I'm in a situation where I can't use a 'bucket of sh^t' type of comment, I'll say something such as, 'Did you think that up all by yourself, or did you have help?' or look at them with a 'are you really stupid enough to say that?' expression (probably similar to your look of death), or just completely ignore it.

The anger management thing is kind of non-applicable because he didn't actually punch the guy in the mouth or some such. Talking about it after the fact in a supportive environment is a good thing. If you're the type of person who isn't bothered by this type of stuff, then you wouldn't need to even mention it (here), and even if you did, it would be in a much more 'off-the-cuff' manner.

Regardless, to Worf, yes, you are not alone. I get the comment occasionally, but most of the time it is good-natured, so I ignore it, or sometimes even smile. My acidic replies emerge when someone is being mocking, which isn't often, thank goodness.

Been there... done that... didn't take.

Worf

:)

I can also relate - but thank God for free weights, heavy bags, and firearms (range shooting). Much better therapy than meds or counseling!

Worf = Indiana Jones???? OK, the guy has some serious issues going on.

What the heck, it's Friday - almost time for the weekend. At the end of the day you are still stylin' and he is still just a putz.
