Binkie, you're obviously a smoked fish man so may I suggest kedgeree for breakfast next time you've overindulged? Works wonders. Doesn't stink the house out as much as the kippers either.

The “control thing” keeps me from getting drunk to the point of hungover the next morning. On those occasions wherein I feel I am headed down that path, I drink a glass of room temperature water before bedtime. The next morning’s hot shower always gets rid of the next morning funk. Except for that time I hung out with Big Sandy drinking Moscow Mules after a show, only time, water, and movement (sweat it out) worked. These days, I mostly stick to backing off the booze when I feel it hit, and keeping plenty of water and food going in to soak it up. I never much enjoyed being drunk, though (it's a control thing, I guess), so that very much helps in avoiding the worst of the hangover. As noted by others, hangover is basically dehydration - you need water, salts and sugars. If I don 't manage to drink enough water the night before or otherwise feel a bit delicate, the best choice is a whopping greasy fried breakfast, tea, and something with a good quantity of sugar in it. Scottish friends swear by Irn Bru (or other Barr's products: has to be full sugar, though). The fry has to have real bacon in it (lots of substitutes in the area I live in owing to there being a large Halal market) - I'm guessing it's the salt content I crave. Heat seems also to help (oddly, because I normally avoid the Sun) - in Winter, a hot bath. Paracetemol and such can be helpful the morning after, but don't work if taken as a preventive measure. Not sure if it has any health implications as such, but do know that the alcohol can cancel out the effect of a paracetemol. (Same as it does with antibiotics).

I love the imagery!Absolutely. In my few experiences of being really muntered, the worst of it was that there was a long period of
*inside* my head feeling totally clear, like was the rabbit running the show, banging on the desk because none of the controls for the outside worked....
