Looking back at the pics you posted...I don't see how this could be improved. I understand your reaction tho. I had the exact same feeling when I opened up my midnight blue 30's HB. As much as I loved it...it fell flat. It turns out tho I wore that far more than all my other jackets (had a larger stable at that time) and upon selling it I quickly knew I made a poor decision. Now two years? later I purchased almost the exact same jacket, albeit in a different hide and I'm really glad I did. I think you'll find yourself grabbing this one much more than you'd expect.

I have this Goat Californian, coming in a larger (42) and a few years newer. The new one is a c1943, the one below is c1935. They did many interesting jackets in Goat, it typically wears well.

I found a German Vanson retailer who had a lot of Vansons in stock and decided to give the Vanson Dakota model a try for the casual black leather jacket that I have been looking for for a while. Truth to be told, I didn't expect too much, I ordered mostly piz of curiousity and was going to send this back.. however now that it arrived, I'm loving it. Fit is great except for the too long sleeves (as in all Vansons for me), the large action back doesn't look as bad aesthetically as I always assumed it would, in fact it's very functional and BOY, the leather on this thing.. this is my fifth! Vanson jacket and this is by far the stiffest jacket I ever put on. With previous Vansons I thought everyone here had been overexaggerating, they didn't feel too stiff and broke in quickly. This thing here however... I can barely flex my elbows in. Weight-wise it isn't too heavy but yay, it's stiff and feels indestructible. If this is Vansons new competition weight stuff, we have nothing to worry about. Very impressed with the jacket, has potential for future favourite go-to jacket. I think the Dakota may be a very underrated style, just as the Stadium which I bought blindly too and love as well. American seamed cuff btw, for all those who complained about Vansons fold-over cuffs before.
Don't be fooled by this picture btw, it's not as identical to the Enfield as you'd think from this first look. It's about 3 inches longer than the Enfield and has much broader shoulders. This isn't a CR pattern, this is a car coat pattern.

Could it be X-150 leather? Super stiff at first and lighter than comp weight, though still substantial. Breaks in like a dream, both in feel and visually. I actually prefer it to comp weight because it is so visually appealing to me as it is used and it breaks in. It definitely becomes your own and will break in differently on different wearers.
On a side note: I have a LW PJ27 inbound.
This jacket really looks good on you and fits you very well
Also it is clearly a daily wearer same as my suburban is for me.
Lastly, now that you have your base covered you can have fun and get something wild... such as a red jacket

Thank you, everyone! I really like this. The shoulders are very wide, like 20" or even more, compared to my America jacket which has 18" shoulders in the same size. Sizing down is no option however, because it is quite slim through the body with 22" pit to pit and you can tell from the picture it's actually quite snug at the bottom on my hips. No way I could size down on this and still zip it up. This is just supposed to fit like that, a relaxed, wide-shouldered casual fit which I like!
Yeh, it's really a longer style kind of jacket. Vanson compares it to work coats, on some website I saw them call it barn coat. It's 28,25" backlength in a size 40. As I said before, this is no shirt-collared equivalent of their Biking Model B as their Enfield is. This is a different type of clothing, definitely not made for riding. No zips on the cuff, no windflap. It's an actual casual hip-length free-time jacket, potentially car coat.
