Hat #2 from @NewJack

Lagomarsino Black Nutria Homburg

This is a hat I’ve been looking at for the better part of a year. Originally, I saw it for sale by yet another Lounge member, but I just couldn’t pull the trigger. NewJack ended up with it and made me a great deal.

The felt is soft and luxurious and with just a bit of coaxing it should fit fine.

Stemwinder Custom Hats 100X...lords hat?

The felt is western stiff, but the hand is incredibly soft and the condition is immaculate. When I first put it on my heart sank as it was way too small. I turned the sweat out looking for tags and found a felt reducer pad and weather stripping fore and aft. With the reducers removed the hat fit great! I thought the felt was Silverbelly but upon seeing it in person it looks more bone. Fine by me. It’s a great hat! Thanks Doc!

Again, I like wide brims with curls. My own Optimo Frank Lloyd Wright in a different felt has not been shipped yet. First tine Optimo has failed to deliver on time.

I guess I will have to add "Peschel" to the list of my favorite eBay searches, Steven.

Max, Thanks! Like Hückel they were originally located in Neustitschein / Novy Jicin, Austria / Czechoslovakia up to WWII. After WWII all hat companies in Czechoslovakia were nationalized as TONAK. The A. Peschel factory was closed. After WWII the Peschel family ended up in Dinkelsbühl, Bavaria, Germany. They started a factory there but on a much smaller scale.

I'm mot sure if I already posted this in "new hats" before. I am noveau riche in hats, thanks to Anthony, and I can't remember for sure.
Anyway, this pre-1946 merger Mallory Premier is immaculate, including the lining.
It was a little tight at first, but it fits well now.

That is one good looking hat, Brent. Not exactly a homburg or lords hat. The brim width and the lack of curve are not consistent with either homburg or lords hat. The liner points towards a more western sensibility too. But what does it matter? It's a great piece and the curl on the brim is outstanding.

Thanks, Stefan. I’m not sure how to classify the hat either. It is definitely a western weight felt that is very stiff, but you can get fedoras made from western weight felts. Some sort of hybrid? In any case, it’s been one of the nicer surprises I’ve had with recent hat purchases.

The nutria felt is outstanding. Such a nice hand. It’s hard to describe, but it feels different than my beaver, rabbit, hare, or blend hats. It just feels luxurious, if that makes sense. I’ll keep an eye out for more of these.
Greetings All:
Interesting question by Stefan about how the Nutria felt of your homburg compares Brent.
If i may chime in. I don’t have all that many Nutria hats but those i do are totally different styles. I have a couple Stetson Smokies, literally stiff as a board, a couple Stetson Western OR styles, thick but less stiff and a Borsalino fedora which is thin soft and dreamy felt. Therefore, hard to compare based just on felt type. I know there is a Stetson Nutria thread but i wonder if there might be interest in a dedicated “Nutria Hats” thread?? Or enough hats out there to support it. Could be interesting.
Be well. Bowen
Ps: some nice new hats of late all.

Wow Doc:
Optimo stood you up?? Drat!
Probably because the delivery guy decided just to stay in Mexico. After all, he’s been there so much lately!! Go figure! Ha

I do see what you mean. It’s hard to keep it to just one variable.

I hear news stories of how nutria, as an invasive species, have caused lots of ecological problems and how hard they are to control as they reproduce quickly and adapt to many environments. It all makes me wonder why there isn’t more use of these nuisance animals. I’d love to see hatters offer nutria felts.

So, the other day while in Dallas I forced myself to make a pitstop at Hatco in Garland. Picked up this really nice Stetson Royal De Luxe Premier Whippet 150th anniversary edition. Really nice soft thick buttery felt and a nice vintage style straight crown. Told the salesman I really liked the hat but the golden mustard pug was a bit too "pimp daddy" for me. He reached around to one of the displays and picked up different pug he had laying there and said "Is this one better?" I liked it so he threw it in the box at no extra charge. They sell the pugs for about $2.50 each. I know, I know - remove the original band before attaching the new one, just testing it out for now. Out the door on sale for right at $100 bucks. ;)

I prefer the original single-color ribbon. Great hat at an even better price!

"1930s Crofut and Knapp “Eiderdown” made for the George Eakle store in Philadelphia from the wonderful stock of David P. Lochner a @briarvintage"-Anthony @moontheloon

I wore this hat today. The felt is unbelievable. It moves and stays there if you blow on it. Light as air.
