Donning my own refurbed black Borsalino again this early A.M. for a Noir effect. I've learned that you don't want to discount black hats. I used to hate them with a passion but if done right they can turn out to be a pretty impressive lid...tall straight crown and a 3 inch snap brim on this one

Some hat play. Couldn’t settle on one today so I wore two: my Tim Bender beehive bowler (on which I have just modified the brim and reworked the crown to remove some crease marks that show the sweatband line), and my Optimo Manhattan.
I’m sort of fascinated by how the Bender went from a kind of civil war looking hat to something I might have seen in the film “Gangs of New York.”

That Derby does have the look of 1880! I need one like this, super cool Jeff. Nice Optimo colors.

Early Friday for me. Baling after today to take a couple days before the long weekend.

Unlined, lightweight Playboy for the unseasonably warm first week of October.

Another Playboy this morning, and it's a beaut as well. Great lid, Jim!

You wear it exceedingly well, Terry. Great work on this one, as usual, ans the noir look really works. You could be a modern day Phillip Marlowe.

Mike, Thanks! The Crease clip was missing. I also have a C.G. Wilke Velour that once had a Crease Clip. I only have 2 hats that came with Crease Clips. Probably the only 2 on the FL. :) Here is one of them.

These clips were a fascinating fashion accessory from the early century. I have a box of them if anyone wants one. I tried putting one in a hat that was not very "soft", it pulled the sides out and changed the fit drastically. I think the hat needed to be more "weathered." To see this one with the clip intact is a treat.

Thank you, buddy. I appreciate that. I have a black thin ribbon Resistol that I converted last year with similar dimensions but it's finding a new home with a new owner. I'm on the look out for another black hat now.

I'm going to miss this hat...but I know it's going to a good home ;)

I continue with the series of heather felts bought in France
2cyp55k.jpg

This magnificent example has no name only bears the inscription inside the dome "feutre de poli" which signifies fur felt
2l8xp2f.jpg

Like the others it seems to have been partially finished
mt9ev7.jpg

The seller attributes it to one of the great producers, Bouteille, of Chazelles sur Lyon, historical disrtict of the French hatters
b3n1q1.jpg

The felt, long-haired, is a melange of fur and wool with the shades you see well in this photograph
ei2hw5.jpg

The felt is thick and very malleable and the ribbon of exquisite workmanship, even if a little curled by bad storage

Buon mercoledì!
A great thank for your likes on the yesterday heather felt

Thank you, Doug. When you do get your mitts on one, you'll be amazed at their softness. They have a terrific hand.
