Walk on the east side of the valley where I was born, a bit of sun and then the shade and the cold
qxki1j.jpg

Borsalino Qualità Extra Superiore size 6 1/2 or 60 cm. 7 1/2 US

Color Misto Sodio, no name for the fancy ribbon

This is a tribute to Stefan and his passion for Borsalino "Misto"

Felt is very soft and the ribbon is very uncommon
The hat was restored in Italy by Sergio Melegari - Milan

Churchill that I strongly suspect was made by Biltmore.

It’s a decent quality hat, but I just like “more” hat.

Still looking for a 7 5/8 Beaver 50 or 100.

You’re probably right this is a Biltmore, as the made in Canada mark is the one they use. Or at least the sweatband is from biltmore

A novice hat collector, like me, and other non-experts are just trying to follow some kind of logic:
"Extra" is expected to be better than simple "Superiore"
"Extra Extra" is expected to be better than "Extra"
and so on ...
I don't mean newest Borsalinos; but the models from the second half of the last century ... before and after leaving Alessandria.
Of course I have noticed that felt quality sometimes does not relate to the mentioned descriptions.
Are all these different quality names really meaningless and nonsense?
This discussion is more for the Borsalino Brotherhood thread, but in short: we don't really know. There's no obvious and noticeable difference between the various designations, which isn't to say that there isn't a difference and it's all just marketing. It might well be that the various qualities have some relation with the composition of the felt for instance.

A few days of absence and the parade of magnificent hats has expanded
168g2rr.jpg

From the "hairy hats" series, today we have a Borsalino
apbbjk.jpg

Borsalino Grand Prix size 6 or 59 cm. or 7 3/8 US
j97qiv.jpg

Color is "Miele" and the ribbon is "Seppia". Magnificent felt and color matching, equally

Hat from the sixties of excellent workmanship with a felt, soft and very compact, with a unique color best taken in the sun

Thanks for the likes of last week and have a nice day

The hairy serie is not finish
Beautiful series of hairy hats so far, Daniele. Can't wait for the rest of them.

An unusual Dobbs Gay Prince, no liner, lightweight heather felt and missing the whipstitch detailing on the self ribbon. 1940s HCA manufacturing label and $12.50 price sticker. The Gay Prince trademark was filed in 1946 (the year of this advertisement) but the filing shows a first use in trade date of 1940. From the felt (which might contain wool) and the sweatband, I think this is possibly a wartime era GP, but that is just a guess of course.

Very nice as usual, Alan. What strikes me most about some of the older hats is how well the hats with woolcontent were done. Superb craftsmanship back in the day.
