Very cool old Marathon!
You’ve lost some weight John??

That's a great, historic hat. James Cash Penney incorporated as J. C. Penney in 1924 (it was J. C. Penney Stores prior to that, from the time he bought out his partners in 1913) Marathon hats were his first store brand. I believe they date to 1914. They are hat history, but also American retail history. James Cash Penney created the brick and mortar chain store. Mail order catalogs ruled retail before Penney.
It's interesting that the internet has fueled a bit of a retrograde.
That Marathon is a piece of two important histories.
Smile a little!

Best, Eric -

Absolutely gorgeous big contrast binding with matching trolley button. That one is a true gem.

Hey H&R there is a thread somewhere around here where a guy made one out of plywood and clothespins. I won’t dare to describe it but it was very ingenious. Maybe someone else remembers the thread and link??

Carpenters sometimes use something called a contour guage. I can conceive of ways to incorporate it into conforming a hat.
However, putting that classic contraption on someone's head has to be worth at least a $150 markup, just for the experience. When Max takes one off the market, hatters children go without hats.
And why?
Does Max wear it, or does he make Anna wear it?

Rain, thunder storms and wind. Switched to a 40s Champ felt with triple stitched bound brim, and a Jos A Banks leather jacket.

Super Champ, Doug. Excellent triple stitched bound brim and complimentary ribbon. Great shape and colour, too. The whole look of that one is just outstanding.

Greetings All:
Today.....this one i call The Incorrigible.
It has the resolve to never be resolved into any crease other than that which it presents this day.
While being nice felt and well appointed inside and out, excluding Stetson’s choice for sweatband leather, imho it photographs quite well.
I just refuse to spar with it steaming away it’s persona and just allocate it to The Expendables category.
Mickey Rourke might look good in it. Lol
Stetson Open Trail.
Be well. Bowen
