I sent him (AF/VS) an email a few months back and never got a response. That led me to believe he was already retired or pretty close.

Don't quote me on this, but I heard Gibson is just as good. I know he's working on a hat of mine and he seems like a really nice gent.

I love Oxblood. Goes great with gray, black or navy slacks or suits.

I found an old pair of Allen Edmonds Park Avenues for cheap because they were really scuffled up, but perfect soles and insides. I totally stripped them down to the natural calf skin and found the perfect match dye to Allen Edmond’s Oxblood. After dyeing and lots of polish and wax, they match the AE Oxblood belt pretty good.

Now I just need a hat. Been looking for one, but no luck yet.

I would have to get out to wear that hat too !! I need to get me a VS but I heard Art was retiring. Did he just make that for you or did you get it second hand ?

I know what you mean about the Steroids. I hate being on those things. Plus makes me hungry all the time....

Hope you can get off all that stuff soon.
I had heard Art was retiring, so I got my order in by his deadline back in October, I think, in order for him to try and finish all orders by 12/31/2019. I have 2 other hats from Art, a Silverbelly beaver felt fedora (the first custom I received about 3 years ago) and a 400 wpsi Cuenca hat body I brought back from Ecuador that I had Art make into a hat for me.

I have customs from other hatters like Black Sheep Hat Works, NW Hat Company, and Gannon Hat Company and can recommend them all highly. I have 2 or 3 customs in mind for either Michael Gannon or Mike Miller this coming year, if all goes well. BSHW makes a wonderful hat, but the 21-23 month wait both my wife's hat, and my hat, took is a bit more than I care to wait for again.

It came from Garland - Texas with the courtesy of Steve. It was one of the model Deckard design. I think it is the only beaver hat I have

I really like the felt color and the combination of colors of the ribbon and the trim of the brims, although the finish of the bow could have been better, but perhaps for this reason it was in the second choices

Braved the holiday crowds for some Enmoladas de Pollo in my 50s Borsalino. The Mexican Coca Cola with cane sugar topped things off. I would have preferred a Mole Negro over the Mole Rojo, but I ain’t exactly in Oaxaca.

A Borsalino like that is good enough to brave any situation! Fabulous.

Like the two burgs, but that gorasgu is the bomb!!! I’d like to hear someone pronounce the name: Gorasgu. I’m sure its nothing like what’s going through my mind.

Ask a Mexican to pronounce it for you, Randall. It is pretty straightforward in both Italian and Spanish.

Here’s a conversion I fixed up for my 7 1/2 sized nephew.

This used to be a modern cattleman’s crease that I had to saturate in the shower to get it to take to its new shape.
Which caused the cheap, cardboard like
Sweatband to turn rock hard, once dry.
had to rip it out and sew in a fresh cheap, cardboard like sweatband from another crappy modern western Stetson I had on hand. Can’t believe Stetson uses these things! You wouldn’t be able to water your horse from these things.
False advertisement, these days, if you ask me.
Then sewed on my first attempted campaign bow and repaired a single moth bite. guess the moth larvae didn’t like the modern western hard hat either.
Had I used the correct 3/8 grosgrain ribbon
(cotton/rayon) the hat band would’ve turned out better. Oh well. I did this for free.
[emoji56] He should appreciate the hard work, if nothing else.

I love the campaign bow, and regretfully haven’t a single hat with one! I will try to remedy that in the future...hopefully by buying one with the bow already there!

I think you did a commendable job, especially on the ribbon and bow, Randall.

Taking the Courtney out for some errands. This is the hat made for Levinson Hatters in Indiana, and Bowen went to school with some of them. Pretty sure made by Lee.

The Controlled Brim is pretty cool, and actually works. I have it just slightly down in the front, but still pretty flat and slightly curled up. Unique brim shape for me. Very nice dress weight felt as well.

Nice one, Tim. Once a brim loses control you never know what might happen!:)
