Mossant 1.jpg

To keep company with the bowler hat Berteil, another piece of hat from years long gone by now
Mossant 3.jpg

Also this very badly judged for the size, sold as a tight 57 cm.
Mossant 4.jpg

Mossant size 6 or 59cm in Europe or 7 3/8 US. The internal measure is 20.5x17 cm.
Mossant 2.jpg

The outside is in very good condition, the inside as well, without lining with the mark on the bottom of the crown which makes me think its old age is greater than the previous one.
Mossant interno totale.jpg

Mossant Marocchino 1.jpg
Mossant Marocchino 2.jpg
Here too there are no drafts or dents in the crown and the shape is the ancient one.
It is not a low, round "bowl" and the brims are very curled.
Mossant 5.jpg

The toppings are good and still presentable.
Mossant 6.jpg

I repeat: it is very rare to find a bowler hat of this age so well preserved

Be still my heart! Two wonderful examples, Daniele.

Sometimes you have to be bold to have something special.

In this case, two bowler hats sold in Paris by a "brocante" who photographed them well, but the size was completely wrong.
View attachment 291070
Berteil size 7 1/8 or 58cm in Europe. The internal measure is 20x16 cm.
View attachment 291071
The exterior is in very good condition, as is the interior except for the unstitching of the front of the sweatband.

I picked up some hats that are interesting to me even if not my size. I always plan to let it go then when I see some quality specimens I fall back into original sin
Panizza 1.jpg

Panizza size 5 or 57 centimeters in Europe, 7 in the States. Internal measurements are 19.5x16 centimetres
Panizza 2.jpg

A production of the Panizza factory is the historical one so we are before the end of the Seventies.
Panizza 3.jpg

The hat is a magnificent gray color with the ribbon, also in gray that goes in slight contrast with the felt.
Panizza 6.jpg

The felt is of medium consistency, unlined with the "Panizza" brand on the bottom of the crown
Panizza interno completo.jpg

Oddly, no definition of the quality of the hat and no indication of where it was for sale
Panizza 5.jpg

The hat is light and very malleable in a special color combination.
Panizza 4.jpg

These are the measurements: the brims are 6.5 cm, the ribbon 3.5 cm. and the crown is at the lowest point 10 cm.
Panizzaparticolare.jpg
A magnificent example of Italian headwear

Often the hats not in my size that I buy are the ones I want, this one in particular
LBarbisio 1.jpg

Barbisio Classic size 5 or 57 centimeters, 7 in the United States. The internal measurements are 19.5x16 centimeters
LBarbisio 2.jpg

It is one of the most elegant hats I have found recently and among the first in my ranking.
LBarbisio 3.jpg
Its shapes are unusual for the period, 1950s, in which it was made.
LBarbisio 4.jpg

It has the crown very similar to a lobbia (Homburg) but the brims are not so curled and without the ribbon seal, they are instead finished with great quality, in the Barbisio tradition, by three seams, overwelted
LBarbisio 6.jpg

Felt is malleable and very nice to the touch. The ribbon has the bow exactly on the back. Classic interior
LBarbisio interno.jpg

These are the measures of a special hat: the brims are 6 cm. the black ribbon at 4.5 cm. and the horns at its lowest point is at 10.5cm.
LBarbisio 5.jpg

It is the first Barbisio that I find with these characteristics, but it is far from fitting my head

I always consider Barbisio to have been Borsalino's main competetion and this hat shows the reasons why. High standards and huge variety.

Royal Deluxe Stetson - Happy Birthday to me!! This is a very nice felt - soft and light.
2 1/2” brim, a whopping 5” crown, 3/8” grosgrain trim on brim, 1 3/8” grosgrain ribbon. Black as coal. The sweatband is thin and very soft. Original price tag indicates $11.95. I’m guessing 1950’s - what do you guys think?

Borsalino Marque Grand Luxe

A88432E3-8B78-4ABE-BAE0-B46AE04B084F.jpeg

Borsalino Marque Grand Luxe XXXXX
Ghiaccio (Ice/Sand) Supershort Velour like felt
4 3/4 crown as shaped (5 inch open)
1 1/2 black grosgrain ribbon
1 7/8 raw edge brim

This beautiful stingy brim Borsalino came off a tip from @deadlyhandsome. The thin lightweight felt is a super soft almost velour like felt with an extremely short nap. The color is Ghiaccio.... Ice grey with sand undertones. The ribbon color name I couldn’t make out exactly but appeared to be D. Marine.. though appears to be black. A black yellow and red feather is tucked behind. The brim comes in at just a hair under 1 7/8 with a nice sharp raw edge. The manufacturing tag points to early to mid 1960s. The only damage appears to be a circular groove in the brim.. possibly from over aggressive cleaning and a couple of tiny tiny moth nibbles under the brim. It weighs in a fit trim 94g.
