What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Kind of a maiden voyage for the Aubergine Rabbit Lord's Hat. One of my more unusual custom creations by Mike Miller of NW Hats. The Lord's hat is a homburg that is "dressed down" for casual wear by not having an edge binding. The long hair finish is really special, called melusine. Styled from a hat on Downton Abby.

That is gorgeous, although I wouldn't call this one 'dressed down' exactly. Fabulous hat, Mike.

Gooood morning hat folks. Thanks for sharing your hats and for the likes for my hat wearing escapades yesterday.

Yesterday late afternoon and evening I was wearing a Gannon Wanderer (granite beaver with charcoal ribbon trimmings).

This mornings dog soirre was enjoyed in a Stetson Open Road 3X. I have this fedora in a tugboat crease. IMO, it works great with this hat.

Some early morning coffee in a Stetson Sovereign Twenty Open Road. IMO, a gentle diamond crease works better with this hat.

Cheers, Eric -
Fantastic as always, Eric.

1940s Marathon Whippet clone. Definitely my most film noir hat, with a 5 3/4 open crown and 2 5/8 brim.

What a day out there!

Classic look. I really like the brim binding on that one.

Wearing today a pre-WWII Barbisio... made with "rat-gondin" or in modern French, ragondin, or even more attractively, nutria. It's a wonderful hat imprinted with French descriptive - the international language of fashion not spoken by many in Bulgaria.

That liner alone brings the hat two levels up!

Rand's 8X Flat brim, doing what it's designed to do!
Excellent hat, Rick.

My favorite Borsalino, purchased from Moon several years ago right here from the lounge. Fabulous felt, shapes easily without steam.

I agree, Brent. Nutria, even in old hats, doesn't have a very nice hand, in my opinion.
I am glad you said it.
I’ve only handled a few vintage nutria hats. The Stetsons and the one Barbisio didn’t have impressive hands. These Sunrise nutria felts can be given a fine finish and are very smooth, but I think that beaver still shades them…even if just by a small amount. Michael Gannon had the same opinion where he was impressed but still thought Winchester’s beaver bodies made overall nicer hats. So far, I much prefer the Sunrise nutria over Winchester’s beaver when talking about western hats. Both Gannon and Mike at Northwest are trying to address the deficiencies in Winchester western weight beaver and the hats should be arriving before Christmas. Time will tell.

Truth be told, if vintage hats were easier to find in my size I don’t think I would ever have gone the custom route.
Not my experience with nutria to be honest, but I have to admit almost all the ones I've handled were done by Borsalino. But also the ones done by Willoughby and Tirard do have a nice hand to them. I have one Chisnall that is a nutria chamois finish that I think could have been better in other felt.

Willoughby velour. Thankfully, View attachment 371443 View attachment 371444 it stood the test of on and off showers.
You can get a lot of wear out of that one the coming months. Wonderful velour hat.

View attachment 371455 MaxLachlan Golden Beaver Hundred. The X was unintentional, but since it took two months to have the hat restored by Optimo, and we cleaned it, replaced the ribbon, reblocked it, and duplicated the crest in the new sweatband, I decided to leave it. :) View attachment 371456 View attachment 371457 View attachment 371458 View attachment 371459 View attachment 371460 View attachment 371461
That's a showstopper, Max. Not much left after that one.

Glad to see the velour season is upon us! Prime example there, Steve.

First, a big thank you to all those who have been giving me positive comments and like lately. I don't acknowledge those things enough and it's appreciated.

Second, y'all been knocking it out of the park lately. Great hats, and special mentions for Joe and Steve.

I'd give Eric a nod, too, but I don't want it to go to his Short Balding Head!!

I keed, i keed.

A little change of pace for me. anton Peschel from West Germany. A super nice velour and Stefan's favorite color!

Very nice. Great colour, Randall.

Good to see all the furry hats coming out to play. Very nice, Brent.

It is with great pleasure that today I wear a hat that is the result of an exchange

I was able to closely observe a hat made a few years ago in the United States of which I see countless hats on the screen every day:)

Meanwhile, I enjoy the homburg in these warm autumn days.
To be fair, there are quite a lot of good ones to discover, Daniele. Mallory is certainly not the worst place to start.

Hückel Homburg. Autumn is really kicking in here in Denmark. View attachment 371798
Homburg, Hückel... keep going, Steve. The brim curve on that one is great.
Gannon navy to run some errands today. My consistent photo-bomber close by. Off to visit another university tomorrow. Hope y’all have a great weekend.

Inspired by Eric’s @Short Balding Guy Royal St. Regis from yesterday, I rebashed my St. Regis this morning.

The felt easily holds a dry bash. Eric, I notice that the crown on your Royal seems higher than my Royal DeLuxe. It would be interesting to do a side-by-side comparison. I think they are both from the same era.

A Super Saturday Surprise…. Thank you to our beloved Brother Brent for a lid I might never have tried, but I LIKE a lot!!! More suited to the “How do Folks React…” thread, but the first comment I received (from a 19 y.o. guy) was “you look 20 years younger!” It’s a keeper!! 783DEB75-67EF-4841-AAA0-0742F4CB7DB4.jpeg BCD76B64-01F2-4558-9086-A756B27D671D.jpeg 755D9BE7-5D2F-4A5D-A9E3-53DB2B6471E5.jpeg 596EA92A-130D-4B89-A219-4874321BAD08.jpeg
