That's exactly right! The SEC Championship game has become a punishment of sorts. It's an extra game that one team will have to lose and possibly be snubbed from the playoffs, not to mention possible injuries and such. Then there are conference teams who qualify for playoffs but didn't make it to the league championship. They basically get a buy and remain safe and sound.
