Folkwear 30s Day Dress
crwritt: your scallop dress is lovely. I like the asymmetrical details and the buttons are adorable.

swinging bee: your summer robe is nice and the fabric is wonderful. Your red skirt is nice. I like a quick and simple sewing project once in a while. It seems to take me so long to sew anything lately that it's nice to get some closure in less than a month of weekends.
Which is how long it took to make my first 30s dress and my first dress in I can't even say how long. It's the Folkwear 30s Day Dress View B, the fabric is a dark brown rayon I picked up on sale at the Pacific Fabrics Outlet store in Seattle.
The dress turned out well, is quite comfortable. My main complaint is my choice of fabric, which obliterates the flutter collar and cute pockets, which, of course, you can't see. I can't see them when I'm wearing the dress!

Thanks Tenuki, but the scallop dress is Velvetongue's, I just reposted a picture from her blog because I felt it showed the scallops and fabulous buttons better.
I like how your brown print dress turned out, if you want to see those details on the "next" dress, a more subtle fabric and some sort of contrast edging around the collar and pocket will help show them off.

Thanks gals, I adapted a 50's blouse pattern and the skirt part is from a modern
wrap dress pattern. The neckline suggested the pocket shape to me, then the big pocket seemed to want a buddy. The cuffs just made sense. The fabric is an India cotton print, I bought it at an odd lots store, hadn't seen anything like it in years. http://www.mardenssurplus.com/fabric.php Its a bit heavier than quilt cotton.I made the bias binding from 75cents worth of fat quarter, and I have plenty left. I really like how this dress feels.

Both you ladies Zendy and Crtwtt well and everyone else I am so impressed I was just looking in my closet at a dress I made about 4 years ago and I was actually impressed with my quality but I always have such a hard time with the fitting I have a very applesque shape and will it is challenging to get the fit right. So you all have my admiration and I think i will be dusting off that sewing machine.
