I assume that is a double leather sole with a vibram half sole added. Yeah, that is a lot of sole!

I have met the guy that owns those boots at a knife show. They are in fact natural Chromexcel. He is a member of a knife forum I frequent, and he has posted a bunch of pictures showing the progression from brand new to what you see in the picture above. He wears those to work as an electrical contractor moving huge transformers around. I am shocked how good they look given the conditions he works in.

I will eventually be ordering a very similar pair for myself. My main hangup is the Chromexcel - I really want a tougher version of it. He says it is plenty tough enough, but it is much softer than the standard White's leathers.

Perhaps I will have to go steal some of his pictures and share them here - I wouldn't he surprised if he was already a member here.

Jimmer, pls do man! I am very much contimplating this same boot (6" SJ on #55 last), but with single midsoles and no toe cap. Also, I hear what you're saying about the durability of cxl, but it's damn hard to beat aesthetically speaking...

I'll probably get flamed for this: Chromexcel is so soft and pliable that I can't help but think of it better suited to a jacket than to a pair of boots.

Just my opinion, and admittedly, I have not yet ponied up for a pair of Chromexcel boots, so it's not even an educated opinion. The gentleman who owns those Natural CXL boots feels that it is tough enough.

I own the Natural CXL Bounty Hunters posted a little while back...
I am a Bulk Electric Transmission System substation operator/electrical maintenance journeyman. (A real mouthful...basically I operate and fix all the stuff that's normally energized at 120,000-345,000v) I've worn my boots everyday while working(and not) for close to the past year. I've recently only worn them when doing indoor work as it has been very cold and snowy. They have held up better than any other boot I've owned. I haven't babied them, the only damage they've suffered was the comp. half sole started to separate, and needed re gluing/nails. They've aged very well. Here are a few shots from new to current.

I really dig how the toe darkened so much faster; this due to heavier friction?

I have the British Tan with a toe cap. I haven't treated the leather with much of anything, just a little shoe cream now and again to cover scuffs. I have noticed my toe caps have darkened more than the rest of the boot. I wonder if it has something to do with the celastic toe, the toe cap, or something else. I've had mine for over 2 years, and wear them a lot, but not in harsh conditions, so they haven't aged much. One of these days I will try to post some current pics. I really like them, but if I had it to do over again I would skip the toe caps. Those Natural CXL's look very nice.
