This cracks me up, since it was a notorious lousy hand me down used car in the late 70s early 80s and a lousy rot gut car to drive. The only good thing about it was that people got out of your way when you merged because many having had these kind of cheap GM cars, especially this one, before their Datsuns, Hondas, and VW Rabbits knew how it swayed on lane changes and ramps. I used to not even check my mirrors, useless in those sedans anyway, because I sensed ever one slowing down and letting me merge at will. Everyone got out of your way when you drove a Granny car.

A ‘69 Chevelle as a granny car? Not my grandma!

Travel is not overly important to me. I enjoy it but don't long for it or have everlasting memories from it or anything but I am not a very sentimental person.

A trip to Denmark for me and the better half or $8000 CAD on a new road bike.

I chose the bicycle.

From here on in, I'll be spending more on saving for my retirement. You can't eat a bicycle.

These days there are very few things I buy new and full-price. I can usually score what I want either on sale, at a discount store, or on ebay. I'm no longer interested in following most fashion trends, so I feel liberated from shopping in the mall. I tend to buy off season which works here in California. I also bought a used sewing machine, and I'm working on altering or making my own clothes in the future from "discovered" items.

Yes, tbh I've shied away from Feather owing to their reputation for extreme sharpness!

If my Sportster gets sloppy riding through a rain, I just take it to the self car wash and spray it off, then dry it with a small leaf blower. However with just bugs and road dust I use a rag and spray glass cleaner to clean the chrome. Good glass cleaner can put the sparkle on chrome.

I find the behavior of other passengers to be often rude and obnoxious. I want to limit my exposure to them. Also, I don't want to spend the beginning and end of my holiday lining up, sitting on hard plastic seats, and cramped on the plane. All I can drink champagne and a bed to sleep it off in, thank you.

This. Economy class overseas is hell on earth. Only thing worse is going anywhere by bus. Buses should be banned and thrown into a volcano.

Once tho, I was flying economy class, sitting next to the most gorgeous girl ever and 8 hrs kinda wasn't nearly enough time.

I think everything in life depends on the circumstances. Otherwise it wouldn't exist.

When I'm buying a jacket, I don't focus on price, or think that i have to spend some amount of money.

I buy what I want to buy. There's definitely jackets that cost too much for me to consider buying them, even though I would like to buy them. Himel, Freewheelers are pretty much out of my normal range of what I can rationally justify spending on something. I do own a FW now, and love it, but I bought it used for about 1/2 the cost, and it's still on the high end of what I would consider spending. Above this price it's not even a question of whether I have the money, and more that I'd be afraid to wear it for fear of it being damaged, stolen, etc. somehow.

Likewise, when I buy anything, I don't go for the cheapest anything. Most stuff that is competing for the bottom price is junk, and not worth the money. I look for the most bang-for-buck, the price point at which the quality to dollar ratio is the best. That's how I go for most purchases. And even then, I'll do some hunting to see if I can find the best price for the best-value item once I've identified it.

I like finding "deals". When it come to leather jackets, I couldn't possibly afford all that I've owned if I was buying them new at full MSRP. Probably 90% of my collection was purchased secondhand or on sale at significant discount. And even then it's a pretty ridiculous amount of money to spend on a ridiculous amount of jackets.

Had a co-worker a few years back from India and his theory on this was: Spend your money on your shoes and your bed, as you are always in one of the other." Kind of makes sense to me now, relalizing now that my bed itself (mattress/box spring is not the greatest anymore).

As to other things, I dislike "tech-type" gadgets, such as cell phones, i-watches, flat panel TV's etc. I do have a D-SLR camera but good grief it came out in 2012 and still works way too well for what I will ever use it for.

As for other purchases, I have found that tools, both power and hand tools, are worth the money for a good set, hand tools I shop for ones with a lifetime warranty, as I have been known to break them.

Many of my clothes and even a few jackets come from resale shops, and why not? I have a washing machine. I have bout a few "nicer" pair of jeans and some higher end shirts, however only when on sale. I tend to find the higher end jeans also require more careful handling, more "fragile." So they tend not to get used as much as the Wrangler Cowbuy cut 5-pocket deniums I typically wear.

Furniture, I've been moving toward higher quality there, but not overly heavy (so no hide-a-bed or reclining couches, etc). I again prefer quality over quantity. Onverall trying to find more US and Europe sourced products.

I'm unlikely ever to buy a Smart Watch - I won't even wear a quartz cause I hated the idea of a watch that is dependent on a battery!!

Old cars is like vintage jacket to me, looks good as wallpaper on my pc backdrop, but i dont dream to actually drive them.

I never have problem shaving with Schick Quattro and antibacterial face wash gel and running water in the shower, i never buy any shaving foam/ gel/ cream again. Used to buy Mach3 but their cartridge connection is so weak after awhile the shaver bit would always fall off the handle from tapping against shower cabin wall, and the lubricant strip is designed to look ugly and disgusting just after a week, and their current handle is hollow plastic that feels light and cheap, and it is too aggressive when new and get blunt too fast. I m so happy how schick is sturdily built, and the cartridge perform optimal for a long time never ultra sharp one day then getting blunt the next day like mach3.

Come on down to Sydney fellas. You'll feel right at home on the road (not in the 106 degree heat we had yesterday though) sitting there going nowhere, and paying big toll fees for the privilege. But hey, there's already 5 million people crammed in here with enough roads and trains to service half that number. Let's keep building those high-rise apartment towers everywhere and bringing more people in to congest the roads and rail network even more!

Shoes, watches, jackets, sweaters, and some clothing items...but it is all relative. Don't mind spending money on vacations and entertainment. Most of my money goes to motorcycle stuff, but I have been cutting down on that as of late. I love fast cars, but not enough to dish the money out for them. I have owned muscle cars, over it. I really want one of the new MX5 RF's though, not that fast but incredibly fun.

Reading the traffic comments, I don't know how you guys do it. I would catch a charge if I had to sit in that mess.

The overall question seems to be about value.
What is worth spending more money on (or at least above the minimum), besides jackets, obviously!

I have learned that it is actually cheaper for me to spend more on quality once or twice
than to spend more often on quantity. I have an old pair of Wescos that I'm planning to take to Wesco and have refurbished this year. I bought them back in 2000.

Everyone is different and has different, though no less valid, priorities in their life. You have to focus on what your passions and joys are and then move to support those things, family, friends, hobbies what ever. Things that contribute to your life in a positive way.

I'm a visual artist so I like art supplies, photography equipment, filmmaking, etc.
I like good design as I understand and learn about it, especially industrial design.

I'm not afraid to pay a higher price if I think the thing is worth it - and I mean worth it to me; for what I get out of it. That could be practical use or it could be my appreciation of a design or idea or it could be that I just wanted it for sentimental reasons. I have several motorcycle helmets from the same company simply because I liked their design and the fit and quality was there for me. Sort of a small collection. I only need one helmet. Each helmet was over $1000. I have camera equipment and lenses that are over $1000. Others might not think these things are worth those prices but the value is there for me. I like going camping, but I don't like crawling around on the ground to get dressed. So I found a bigger tent that I can stand up in (which cost more normally) and I use that. I actually found that expensive tent used on eBay so I actually got it for the same price as a decent small tent. Works great for me.

Like many of you I only have one back, and yet I have several jackets.
I can only wear one at a time so I don't really need another. Yet as I write I have a Model E enroute and I am planning a trip to the rainforests of the Pacific North West as I will ride to Langlitz to order yet more things.

The jackets I will pay a lot for. I appreciate handmade, quality materials designed and built in my country.
The trip will be on an old (vintage?) motorcycle I bought for less than $3000. and I'll probably be staying in my big tent at campsites (free or minimal fees).
The whole experience? No doubt, Priceless! : )

So in short (too late):
1. Pay more for what helps you achieve your passions and joy.
2. Cheap is only cheap once, but it could be poor quality forever.
Expensive is only expensive once, but it can be good value forever.
3. Most rules are better as guidelines. Use your own honest common sense.

yea, one time I sit in a small bus going to neighboring city, then a female passenger next to me fell asleep on my side, I was reading a horror novel, so I jumped a little when something heavy suddenly leaned on me made me move forward a bit from my seat and her head fell between my back and the seat, and she keep on sleeping maybe from a anti car sickness pill since my verbal complain didn't work and I didn't want to touch her since who knows if that would make her scream and got me into trouble, and I have to sit without backrest and lock my spine up not to crush her head for 2 hrs.

wasn't even pretty.

But I knew our feeling of time is relative, and time might not be real since that 2 hours felt like 20 hours.
