Borsalino Grand Prix Qualita Superiore today. Very soft and pliable.
I have surface cleaned the liner before, but probably needs a soak so it doesn't look so filthy.
Sweatband is stuffed with an Italian newspaper, dating to the mid 1960s.

In the 90s today… out came one Of the lightest of my light felts…. Lee Smartlee. If it weren’t for the late 50s to 1960s Lee logo I might think this a 30s felt. Incredibly thin and lightweight. Wearing it in honor of a similar looking actual 1930s Dobbs light felt I boneheadedly let slip through my fingers yesterday.

Joe, if you’re like me; some time just before the end of the auction deadline the hat slips your mind, THEN the hat hat slips through your fingers, then some choice words slip through gritted teeth. Some of these old hats are quite slippery!

This is my new 'shop hat'. It was a Resistol that was in tough shape but the felt was very nice. I washed it, and in the reblock the brim separated from the crown for about 300 of the 360 degrees. The sweat band stitching was so close together it tore like a piece of perforated paper.

I joined the two pieces back together, blocked it, added some 6 cord ribbon I dyed and added a braided leather band. STill not a great hat but I get a weird thrill out of rescuing a good felt from the garbage bin.

SHOOT YEAH!
Good job!
Love the end result, hat band and the crown shape!
I’ve had to do that several times; because of the same reason.

My second Akubra campdraft. The only hats I wanna wear these days are my akubras. Before ordering the first I was trying to decide between a CD and an OR I saw somebody on the forum say something to the effect of “get the CD, a year from now, it’s the only hat you’ll wanted to wear.” -that person absolutely nailed it with that one.

Question: are there any other akubra hats I should check out?

Hard to go wrong with the Fed IV if you like that style.

Yeah, Akubra make solid hats. I’ve currently got my eye on the ‘Snowy River’ for my next purchase.
