Home for a fleeting interlude between the matinee and the evening show -- and listening to Shep Fields and his Rippling Rhythm with one of the better pop tunes of 1938, "The Moon Got In My Eyes." Although Shep's is one of the cheesiest of the cheese bands, I must admit I have always enjoyed them very much. Please don't laugh.

Trying to wake up with my second cup of tea, and listening to Annette Hanshaw singing "We Just Couldn't Say Goodbye." One of those tunes where the lyricist was probably drinking something stronger than tea -- "The chair and the sofa, they broke right down and cried," indeed.

Next up -- a singing commercial for Lydia Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. "Remember the name of Lydia Pinkham -- whose medicine for women brought her fame!"

Im a big fan of Annette Hanshaw, LizzieMarie! Everytime I think of her music the first song that pops in my head is 'Button Up Your Overcoat'..it's cute.

Right now I'm listening to 'A New Kind Of Man, With A New Kind Of Love' by Fats Waller ¬°Boy, could he play a tune on the keys!

Next is 'Stardust' by none other than the great Glenn Miller. I like this version. It's off the Lost Recordings Album. Makes me wanna go for a long drive around midnight...

Well, truthfully the last thing I've been listening to is rather non-vintage, being the Fellowship of the Rings soundtrack. But one can never go wrong with Howard Shore, can they?

The last vintage track I listened to was Dick Haymes performing Skylark, and generally being a dreamboat.

By the way, I am always tickled when others voice such an appreciation for the perfection that is Stardust. It's been my favorite song for as long as I can remember, and it's been sort of surprising to see how many others really like it too.

A distinctive way is certainly one way of putting it.

I've always though he transcends simply singing a song. Forgive the flowery descriptives, but each time I listen to him it is a true experience. His voice has an almost mesmerizing quality, I know I feel quite literally enchanted when listening to his music. I know I may get a lot of grief for this, but I hold him in even higher regard than all of the crooners, Sinatra, Bowlly, even *gasp* Crosby (who I do adore, though). Haymes takes all the best vocal qualities of those that came before him and turns them into something uniquely his own, and near too good to be true.

Alright, can you tell I like him?

I'm a Sinatra guy through and through, but there is no question that Haymes is a great and seriously underrated singer. No grief from me on that point!
