Another newbie intro
Hello All, I've been lurking for a while now and thought it better to sign up.
I'm Gareth, living in Cheltenham, England. Welsh by birth which was 56 years ago now. I've been living as a foreigner here in England for exactly half my life!
I've had an interest in hats since becoming follically challenged in my twenties. Living in Wales then, the standard hat was the flat cap, or "Dai Cap" as they were called in the Rhondda Valleys where I was living at the time.
I have been through quite a few caps since then and there's always one in the car as they fit in the pocket so easily!
I got into fedoras about 10 years ago and have a motley selection of fedoras and the like.
My favourites from my collection are the Akubra Fed which I've had for several years, an old Dunn's (an old British Gentlemen's outfitters) narrow brim trilby that looks well lived in and a Rogue Greasy Jock leather fedora from South Africa. Great when I'm off walking in the country or narrowboating as it keeps the rain off a treat!
Then there's an assortment of other hats and caps, too many to mention. A couple of Bowlers/Derbies for when I play the squeezebox with my morris side, a nice Panama which I'd wear more often if we had more sun, a couple of folding Aussie kangaroo leathers a friend of mine has brought back on trips to see her family in Adelaide and so on.
Looking forward to learning a bit more about hats and no doubt buying a few more!

You are correct Nigel, another pipe smoker. You don't do proper old fashioned wet shaving as well do you?!!
As for the "Greasy Jock" I misnamed it, it's actually an "Oily Jock" Not a lot better if you use the American meaning and yes, I do know what an American "Jock" is but I didn't name the hat! Over here Jock is a standard nickname for a Scotsman. Quite what a South African leather bush hat has to do with Scotsmen I don't know. Probably the guy it was originally designed for. Still a great hat for inclement weather.
Look here for Rogue's range of hats and see the oddly named Oily Jock!

I do as a matter of fact. Modern Gillette though but brush and soap, I have yet to invest in an old style double edge.

Remarkable! I am a wet-shaving pipe-smoker as well. My weapon of choice against my rather robust facial hair is the straight razor.

I'm pretty new here too but I really enjoy it.
My girlfriend's ancestry is Irish and mine is English so last year we spent ten days in Ireland and four days in England. See how that works? Anyway, we weren't able to make it to Wales - this time - but loved the trip, the weather, people, architecture, on and on. I'll be going back to spend more time in the UK proper.
