Cold Cream- Brands and advice!

Isn't that a moisturizer, not a cold cream?
Suddenly, our huge and complete Long's drugs has been bought by the CVS chain, and they no longer carry Ponds. In fact , almost their entire stock is reduced by 1/3 or 1/2 as many choices.
Not happy.

Boots vs. Ponds

OK, I have finally had a chance to use both. I have used Ponds for a number of years and loved it. Target recently got in Boots so I got to try the cold cream that many of my lady friends across the pond swear by.
So.......I'm sorry ladies but I'll stick with my Ponds. I prefer the sent, weight and price. If I had nothing to compare it with I would be happy with Boots but I do like Pond's better.

Edited to say: Cleansing wise they are the same. =-)

I just wanted so say on the Witch Hazel...if you like that tingle of toner....go with Oil Of Olay basic toner for all skin types that has Witch Hazel in it.

Hiya ~ I don't know if it has been mentioned in this thread (I haven't read it all yet) - but what is the difference between Cold Cream and Sorbolene Cream? Are they the same thing?
I use Sorbolene as a makeup remover and it seems to work fine.
Is there a cruelty free cold cream?

I picked up my very first jar of Ponds last night. The small is devine, hopefully it does wonders for my skin!

I use this. It's the only one I can get hold of in Sweden. It's ingredients are the same as cold cream and therefore give the same result. Try it out if it is cheap. I like it better than Ponds.

Well, I read through this article forever and kept an eye out for the posters with skin related to mine and what everyone's results were. I'm happy to say I finally went out and bought myself some Pond's and some Witch Hazel and have begun to use it. I've tried every acne/skin product in the world to clean and clear up my face, so hopefully this will work out well for me. As it stands, from my two nights of using it so far, I've seen and felt a somewhat visible difference. I feel that it moisturizes and cleanses my face better than products with harsh chemicals and the like in it, and I really like how soft it leaves my skin feeling. And I can't help but say it's quite nice to delight in something women have been doing before me for years and years. it makes me feel ever so classy and classic! Thanks girls, for all the various instruction, answering of detailed questions, and the like in this thread. :eusa_clap I'm loving it so far!

Is Noxema facial cleanser whatsit (you all must have SOME experience with Noxema, right?) the same as cold cream? Well, aside from that odd medicinal smell of the Nox' which claims to be the eucalyptus or whatever. It may not smell as pretty as other brands, but does it clean as well?

My skin is driving me to the edge of insanity. I'd say "nearly to tears" but I'll tell you ladies the truth, when I'm all ready feeling nervous or discontent I've been IN TEARS over my skin and I have to say, I am NOT FOURTEEN ANYMORE and I ain't gonna stand for any more of this horse-pucky!

Noxzema and cold cream are both oil based products -- the main difference seems to be that most cold creams use a mineral oil (petroleum-derived) base, and Noxzema is mostly linseed and soybean oil (plant-derived). I'd think it would be a matter of personal preference, but I do know a lot of people who absolutely swear by the Blue Jar.

Linseed oil, by the way, is the Golden Era/non-trendy name for flaxseed oil, selling for high prices in a health food co-op near you.

Thank you for reminding me about Noxema. My skin has had a -major- freakout lately...and i totally forgot I had a jar in the cupboard that I can try.

I have the breaking out in some spots, yet flaking off dry in others.....skin at the moment...and its driving me nuts too Viola...so if it helps...imagine me crying too!:cry:

I have a jar of Ponds and a jar of Noxema (just for the instances of skin misbehavior as previously discussed).

My skin is doing quote well...though I'm very tempted to try Boot's Original Cold Cream.

A side question: Ponds seems to be affecting my wash cloths. I have a feeling it is because I am not changing them out as often as I should. It appears to me some of the mineral oil may be staying in the cloth even despite laundering.
Any ideas? How often for those of you who use Ponds do you change out your cloth?

Thanks for the explanation on Noxema, Lizzie. I have some I got for free, is the thing, so I was hoping it would count as cold cream or the next best thing.

It does seem to be helping, somewhat. Whatever brand (Pond's, I think) that has the nice smelling stuff has nothing to fear, but this stuff does seem to work pretty well.

I've started using pond's, a few weeks now. My skin hasn't looked this good in a long time!

I'm so happy with it, I feel so classy and classic (as said by a previous poster

) using it, I love the feeling of all of it. I feel more confident now that my skin is clearer, too. Yay for cold cream!

Has anyone tried the "lighter" cucumber Pond's cold cream?

I am finally going to take the cold cream plunge. I have combination/oily skin, so I am definitely going to follow with a toner after I wash off the cream.* In perusing the CVS options I've noticed Ponds has their classic cold cream and then a "lighter" cucumber cold cream. Due to my skin type, I'm trying to decide between the two but haven't found much mention of this cucumber option on this thread. Any of you ladies have experience with this "lighter" cold cream? If so, can you help a girl out in deciding which to get?

* I already have a full bottle of Burt's Bees tomato toner, so I'll be using that instead of witch hazel until I run out.

I have used that one in the past and I LOVED it becuase it was easy to use and take off.. never left my skin greasy or my sink.. I think its more of a preference.. but I reaaaaly did like that one for my combo skin

ITA, I just picked up the Jergens for a try and light the texture better than Ponds and it was on sale for 3.88 at Walmart. A total win-win.

I use Pond's Cold cream at night to remove makeup, dirt, etc. In the morning I just wash with a cleanser.

I went ahead and got myself some Cold Cream from Boots. I have oily/combination skin, so I have to be careful not to use anything too oily, and also nothing that will strip the natural oils from my skin. I thought I'd give it a go, since I'd heard so many good things about it

So far, I've been using my regular makeup remover, followed by the cold cream (wipped off with a damp face cloth) and then a sweep of Witch Hazel before I go to bed. And then using my regular Lush facial cleanser in the morning.
I've been using the cold cream and witch hazel for about a week now (combined with my usual routine), and it certainly leaves my skin feeling much softer, and I find I don't need to used a moisturizer anymore. Although, I have had a fairly bad breakout. But I'm hoping my skin's just going through that "getting used to it" phase.

Has anyone else had the same problem, and, if so, did it eventually clear up? And did you notice a significant difference to your skin with the use of the cold cream?
