I loved all the original Wolfman movies and have them on DVD. The best order to watch them in is to go from the original Wolfman, to Frankenstein Meets Wolfman, and then conclude with House of Dracula where the Wolfman finally gets cured . . . or does he? All are great pieces of work from America's golden age. It will be interesting to see how the new movie unfolds.

A young Bill Cosby used to do a part of his comedy routine about his fascinarion with the old Wolfman movies.
Still, I always think of these lines from "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" with Lon Chaney Jr as the Wolfman.

CGI has its place, no doubt (the Gollum in LOTR was stunning), but it certainly gets overused, often to the point where it can all go a bit George Lucas.

I just heard that the script was in development hell for years & the release date was pushed back multiple times over the last few years to allow for many reshoots and last minute script revisions. That's a REALLY bad sign. I'm planning on going to the opening night midnight screening and can't wait for it, but this new information at least takes my head out of the clouds.

I'd heard around that CGI will be used for some of the wolfman transformation scenes (some in the trailers look fairly obvious). I'll hold back any judgment on that til seeing the movie, but I if that's true I am bummed for Rick Baker. No doubt he and his team did a lot to make the character and his transformation spectacular.

This can be done very effectively without CGI. I remember when I first saw An American Werewolf in London (1981). The profile transformation shot when David's face pushes out, freaked me out. Even though it was robotics, it was a real, touchable-item-effect which is so much better than CGI, afaic.

I remember that scene as well, and it made me cringe (a testament to how well done it was). I'm hoping the powers that be kept as much of the make-up effects in the film as they could (all would be nice).

No spoilers, but here's my opinions... This film respects the source material and builds upon it great! I saw it as equal parts WEREWOLF OF LONDON (1935), WOLFMAN (1941), and something new! At times I actually thought he WAS Chaney, Jr.! Between the way he carried himself, and the lighting, it really seemed like Creighton.. walked.... again!! But not entirely, this was Del Toro's movie and he wasn't hamming it up pretending to be someone else acting the role. He owns this version; as a tortured soul all in his own way. The film as a whole is quite dark and does not feature a love story as its main theme. The mansion is huge, sprawling and super atmospheric. This is classic Universal's return to the 'old world Europe' setting of their golden era! The film flew by at 2 hrs 20 min and I can't wait to see it again! Also, is there a planned prequel involving the Jack the Ripper murders?! WILL IT INVOLVE GARY OLDMAN RETURNING AS DRACULA PROWLING THE LONDON STREETS?!?!?!? ...OR MAYBE SOMEONE NEW AS THE INVISIBLE MAN/JACK THE RIPPER?!?!?!? Either way, if this film is successful, hopefully we can get a return to the Monster Rallies of old..!!

I'm really excited about this. I just saw the original and loved it, and I totally and completely <3 Benicio Del Toro. I think he will bring a lot to his role as the Wolfman!
