New/vintage hats in California central coast?

I'm headed up to Monterey for a few days soon, a local road trip in place of a bigger vacation until Arnold finds a way to balance the California budget (a sign of the anxiety of being an employee of the state). Can anyone recommend hat or vintage stores in the Monterey/Carmel/Salinas area...

    SF vintage hats

I agree with Sefton--La Rosa has a great selection of vintage clothing. I visited on Saturday, and I was impressed with the great selection--and the fantastic marking and dating of suits, ties, shirts; they really know their stuff. Unfortunately, only one hat in my size in stock, and it wasn't...

    SF vintage hats

Good to hear that those reviews are from philistines, Guttersnipe. Yes, Yelp was one of the sources that I found...seems as though I read about La Rosa on one or two additional sites, but can't recall what they were. Fantastic info--thanks for passing it on. I'll definitely find time to stop by...

    Show Us Your Tattoos

Wow, some amazing work on this thread--great art, everyone! I was in Maui a few years ago when friends all challenged each other to get tattoos. We did some research and found the best place in Lahaina: Skin Deep Tattoo (www.skindeeptattoo.com). But when we got there, we discovered that...

Places to visit in San Francisco

You're right, Miss 1929--a very fun experience if you like the Tiki thing! Sorry to hear about Tadisch (I was afraid I'd misspelled it!)--I'll be up there this weekend and was looking for a drink at the bar. Hope they haven't started remodeling yet!

By the way, Cable Car Clothiers' website can be found at: http://cablecarclothiers.com/

    SF vintage hats

I'm spending the weekend there myself and research suggests a stop at Cable Car Clothiers, a British men's shop in the Financial district. Any hats they have will be modern, not vintage (I'll make my stop at La Rosa first! :) ). Sounds like a cool place, if pricey, from what I've read...

    Milan Mania

Lexybeast, I'm looking for another Milan, and I like the looks of that one--particularly the orange in the ribbon. Nice--I'll check out Biltmore!

JP, I've got that exact hat from Miller, and it has been my primary summer straw. It's a great summer hat for relatively low cost--and it looks good on you! Steve

    movie hats that inspired you...

Scott, this thread has been bumped up lately, and I just came across your post about Redford's hat and the rust ribbon. I suggest doing this: contact Jenny or Deb at Hats Direct and tell them you want to order the Fed IV, but want to replace the ribbon with a rust-colored ribbon. When I did this...

Places to visit in San Francisco

If you're looking for vintage locales (as opposed to vintage shopping), you MUST stop at the Tadish Grill. It's walking distance from Union Square and claims to be the longest running restaurant in the city. You have to visit and have a drink at the bar, or a meal in one of the room-like...

Thanks, WineGuy...so far, you're the best game in town! Let me give it another day or so to see if there's any interest...but I appreciate and am seriously considering your offer. Steve

    Bye, bye, boater...

A heart-stopping moment...but at least someone didn't take it off your head and put their fist through it. I could only imagine Oliver Hardy's double take on that. Small consolation, I know![huh] Good luck on the search for a replacement!

recommendations for a new straw summer hat.

I'm not a huge fan of Village Hat Shop, particularly their Jaxon line. On the recommendation of fellow Loungers, I bought a Milan straw from Miller Hats a couple of months ago, and it's turned out to be a great, relatively inexpensive summer hat. I'd love to get a good Panama from Panama Bob...

    The Green Machine

Green Stetson Thought this thread deserved a bump...wore my vintage green Stetson 3x Beaver mode edge this morning until the sun came out...just enough time to snap a photo and then switch to my Miller Milan. Hate to box this one away until November--guess I'll have to settle for wearing it in...

Where did your user name come from??

Billy Strayhorn lyrics... Just discovered this thread--great reading everyone's inspirations! My username--jazzncocktails--in part describes two of my favorite pasttimes (obviously). But when I think of it, I hear Billy Strayhorn's lyrics for "Lush Life," the tune he wrote for Duke...

Where did your user name come from??

Great username, Lady Brett! I'm a fan as well...wrote my dissertation and later book in part in defense of Lady Brett--in my opinion, Hemingway's women are far more powerful, and often more interesting, than his men. Nice choice!
