Just saw the film yesterday--really well done, if not always perfectly accurate. As some of you note, decisions often serve storytelling over absolute accuracy.
Goose: given your earlier comment about strangers and crowded theaters, thought I'd tell you that my wife and I showed up for the...
Thanks for the compliments, CRH, FFF, and JtL--I'm almost sorry that I'm back in southern California, where the temps are in the 80s and low 90s (and low 100s in the desert, where I'll be shortly)--the Fed will have to hang around a bit more and await cooler autumn days.
CRH, that Squatter...
Wise, wise man, Mississippi...
I agree with the Fawn comments about it being highly versatile and much more casual than the Moonstone. I don't own a Moonstone yet--other similarly grey fedoras that I'm basing my judgment on--but that may be the next in line, pending the results of the Blue...
Modern Dobbs, like modern Stetsons, are said to run a bit large. I'm right between a 58 cm (7 1/4) and a 59 cm (7 3/8), usually using a bit of padding on a 7 3/8. But when trying on a Dobbs telescope milan straw this weekend, I found that the 7 3/8 was ridiculously big on me...and the 7 1/4 was...
Paul-ette, this sounds fantastic--congratulations and best wishes on the venture! I was in San Francisco just a couple of weeks ago and looked high and low for hat shops, with little success. My two best options were La Rosa, a great vintage shop in Haight, and Cable Car Clothiers, on Bush in...
By way of bumping this thread, I'll report that I've just discovered Shushan's hats in New Orleans: http://www.shushans.com/.
I've never heard of them, and I've not seen mention of them on the FL. But they offer a variety of puggarees and pre-made hat ribbons. I've ordered a striped burgundy...
Babs, you won't regret it...the Akubras are great, all-around hats and have a dedicated following here.
Since receiving my Silverbelly Campdraft several months ago, that had been my go-to hat. My Tawny Fawn Fed IV hung on the hat rack, the proverbial red-headed stepchild, collecting dust. But...
Fantastic, GTD! What a great looking VS. About a week ago I placed my request with Art for a lightweight Blue Smoke Whippet, and seeing the felt here makes me anxious to receive it. Congrats to you and Art on the great fedora! :eusa_clap
Back in May there was a feeding frenzy for puggarees here that I missed out on...some beautiful pugs were offered and I didn't dive in when I should have.:eusa_doh:
Now I'm in search of a vintage puggaree or two for a straw telescope hat I just purchased. Preferably colors other than white...
Absolutely gorgeous, Grant Fan. Those vibrant peacock feather colors with your red hair are perfect--nice work! If you've begun to notice a greater frequency of traffic accidents as you happen to be walking down the street in the past month, I suspect you know why.:D
Nice call, Lefty! I hadn't realized it, but you're right: the hat I propose is essentially a variation on the Spumoni as defined on Art's site. Maybe a slightly taller crown, and the pug instead of the ribbon...and of course, the blue smoke felt. Otherwise, that's it exactly. Thanks for helping...
I like that color, club30s--while the colors on my iMac tend to look much lighter than the actual felt samples, that does look a bit whiter than the Mojave or Sand samples I have from Art. And it might look great on the Jazzman I'm contemplating...a good summer felt, I would imagine.
I'm contemplating one of the following; I'm hoping Art will help me narrow down the choices:
1. Jazzman in lightweight mojave
2. Whippet in lightweight blue smoke with wide brim binding matching the felt and black or charcoal wide ribbon (2" or more)--this is the most likely candidate
3. A...
Good news: the Tadich Grill is open for business and hasn't yet undergone renovations. We had a great lunch there in the 20s/30s atmosphere.
A new discovery that has become my must-visit spot in SF: Bix Restaurant. Tucked into an alleyway off Montgomery Street and nestled between the...
