I would suggest you go to a leather craft store such as Tandy and purchase a kit. They come pretty much ready to assemble other than die. After you have assembled that you will have a better understanding of what is involved and go from there. You tube has several instruction videos that are...
I guess most hat stores are pretty much off the rack now days. I don't know of a hat store in the whole state of Missouri that does any custom work. Closest place would be Chicago I guess although that's just 300 miles. Easy day up, spend the night, get a hot dog go hat shopping, doesn't sound bad!
I now have 4 hats from them, happy with all of them. Now you guys have got me thinking that I need to go on their web site and see if there is anything new that I need. They do sell a few fedoras; I am very tempted to try one, they are very reasonably priced. They also sell a deer slayer hat...
Never crossed my mind. I have a rider on jewelry and firearms but that's it. I may have one on tools now that I think about it, I need to get my policy out I guess, thanks for bringing it up.
I guess we could agree to disagree! When writing about history we don't really get to apply our own rules, we are either correct or we are not. I do wish that I hadn't commented, not that I was wrong, I just don't enjoy petty arguments. I have no further interest in this.
There are a few exceptions but very few actually. There are businesses that have been out of business for several years and then sold the name to someone who then claims to have been in business for as long as the name has been used. Indian Motorcycles come to mind. What is even more common is...
While your research is appreciated and informative, I'm afraid you've made some mistakes, Levine Hats in, St Louis has been around longer than any of the shops listed and has been in the same family the whole time. That is also an important point, how many times have some of those shops changed...
Actually, Levine opened for business in St Louis in 1903. The third generation Levine's now run the store and a 4th generation young man has started working there. It is not uncommon for celebrities to stop by and purchase a hat when they're in town, the Stones have been there and purchased hats.
Levine in St Louis has been around since the early 1900s also. They actually had a large hat factory in St Louis at one time, it wasn't very far from where their shop is now. Nice place to visit and buy from. I think they do a fair amount of internet business.
I'm with you, they must fit. I would like to get my hat habit under control really. I should start selling some hats, maybe get down to about 10 that I really like. The problem is every time I start to sort some out to sell, well it just doesn't work!
You can bring that hat back and you will enjoy the hat more if you do. Try hair spray for a stiffener if you need it. It would be nice to have a hat block and a Jiffy steamer would be nice also.
Use strips of felt or leather behind the sweat, I prefer strips. If there is a Tandy Leather store close, you can get the leather strips pretty cheap already cut.
