    Dogs make poor pets

I agree BK. Dogs are not the problem, the keepers are.

    Dogs make poor pets

Feltfan, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. I will retain mine. Right from the start I said this was my opinion. I have not personally attacked you or anyone. There have been some mature, humorous and thoughtful responses so far.

    Dogs make poor pets

I understand that all the different sizes and shapes served a useful purpose, but it was our purpose that was being served. And I'm not saying lets get rid of bulldogs. I've thought myself it would be kind of nice to have one, although it would be impractical and I won't do it. The point is...

    Dogs make poor pets

Good points, karol. Usefulness of dogs is still evident and I don't feel that contradicts at all what I've said. If any of the moderators feel I've committed a crime here, they are within their rights to pull the post. I will not challenge them. I wonder why there are dog...

    Dogs make poor pets

I hesitated to post this because it is not my intention to offend or make enemies. This is an emotionally charged subject and what I've written is certainly not the last word on the topic. I ask that the mature adults who read this would consider it and reply as mature adults whether you...

    Listening to music

I must be the odd one, because I never listen to music on my own. I'm not even sure if my truck radio works. Most music irritates me, yet I'm not really against it. I think classical would have to be the best followed by old hymns and some old jazz and even some new age sounds alright. I've...

Go right ahead. Industries only exist because there is a demand for their product.

The "Organic" Trend - do you believe the hype?

When I had my farm, I could have gotten all I wanted. The septic tank trucks have to pay to empty at the sewage treatment plant and they are happy to dump it in a field for free. I never took them up on it though.

Skinning animals alive may indeed be happening, but it's advantages are inconsistent with my experience and I've got plenty. A freshly killed animal is neither faster or easier or cleaner to process then one that has cooled down. There is blood, urine and feces which gets all over the fur that...

    dog fur coats at Macys.

Morality aside, skinning something alive would be counterproductive to a fast and easy job as far as I can see. There are distinct advantages for waiting until the body heat is gone and even some artificial cooling is preferable. I'll not go into detail since so many here seem to be...

Actually skinning an animal alive is something I've never heard of. I hesitate to doubt you, but perhaps the film was manipulated or the animals skinned that way simply for the sake of the film????? It would have to be done for a reason, but I can see no advantage to be gained by such a practice.

I don't believe the skinning alive part. That must be just hype. It would have to be a major hassle to attempt anything like that.

I have a fur buyer's price list from the late 1800's and dog and domestic cat hides are listed right along with other wild fur bearers like beaver and fox. People's sentiments change over the years, yet it seems we are still just as eager to hate our fellow humans quite as effectively as we've...

    A question of ethics

All animals are property. It is only since Walt Disney that people have made them family members. The last dog I had died 4 years ago. It was a good dog and I missed it when it was gone. It lived outside all year and fortunately we were isolated enough so it could roam unchained. I think it...

    The City Verus The Burbs

For the last two years I've been living on the outskirts of a small town and I like it. The nearest city is Duluth MN about 130 miles and that's close enough for shopping a couple times a year. For many years we lived on a farm so far out in the woods the Jehovah Witnesses couldn't even find...
