Fit Check Thread for Jackets

Good to know, I am def more into the single rider compared to the type III but maybe I will try it out. It is a tagged 42, same as the aero, and measurements are close, but yeah must be because of the sleeve design.

Maybe with a combo of me losing some weight, and a bit of a break in it will be worth keeping.

Any ideas of nice single rider styles that are similar but with better armholes for someone like me?

Ah I see, you will definitely need the size 44 in the Y2 single rider. It will fit within 1/2 size as your Aero 1930s half belt in size 42. The Y2 single rider in 42 is just too small for you. I was in the same place. When I first got into Y'2 I got size 42, and I could put them on but not move around. 44 in Y2 is your size for the single rider. Some of their other jackets are more generous cut but the single rider is as slim as they go. Love their indigo horsehide, it's great hide.

But do you also hate their nylon sleeves? Seems so crunchy and just cheap lol. I'm only used to sateen or drill

@WolfofStateSt Your MA-1 is a bit short right now but ok if you're going for that look. If you go up one size the length will be good but the body will be boxier. Buzz Rickson has what they call a slender fit long, that fit should fit you better.

@Jedy617 Your Y2 looks good but a bit on the slim side. I will assume it is a tag size 44. Compared to your Aero 30s half belt in size 42, the Y2 single rider size 44 will feel like it's half size smaller because of the sharp armholes/sleeve angle and slim sleeves. The problem is, that the Y'2 single rider in size 46 is gonna be quite boxy at the hem, 23" hem width. I think your Aero size 42 has 21.75" hem width and same as the Y2 size 44. This is a tough one. The indigo horsehide is amazing, nice deep color and easy wearing. But their single rider pattern is cut too slim in the critical moving spots. If you're ok with changing the design to Type III, maybe find someone with size 44 indigo Type III to trade with, that pattern feels like it's got a bit more room than the single rider right under the armpits, also a bit bigger sleeves too.

Thanks for the reply. It's a shame it is from Old McCoy’s Steve McQueen collection, but it doesn’t fit right, and there is a mystery (toothpaste?) stain on the storm flap. I also find the wool knit collar itchy and irritating.

Does the Bronson also feature a wooly, itchy collar?

It's a bit too tight in the front which isn't surprising, I am about 15-20lb higher than my normal weight atm, so that I can work on.

Not that I'm trying to put you off your weight loss goal. But I don't think losing that weight will help much. It looks tight around the chest mainly due to the high armholes pulling it back which is why you feel restricted.

Either you'll have to size up, or look for a single rider jacket with a different pattern and probably lower armholes if aiming for the same P2P.

Got it, wonder if I can judge based on pictures if a different single riders will work for me, hard to tell with the armhole things. My other 2 jackets felt a lot better when I was down about 20lbs so I figured the same here, but yeah no getting around the high armholes I guess

Yes Buzz makes the slender long model under the William Gibson label. I had one and for size 42 the shoulder is 19", P2P 24", back length 23" to knits, 26" including knits, front zipper length is 23.5"***, this is the long part, made for lower jeans or untucked shirts.
The RMC B-15C/MA-1 I have are repros so it probably fits different than your Steve Mcqueen one. Size 42 has 20.5" shoulder, 26.5" P2P, back length 23" to knits, 26" including knits, front zipper length is 22.5" (one inch shorter than the Buzz slender long).
You can also take a look at Toys Mccoy version, Toys size 42 is RMC size 40 with one inch less in all around but same sleeve length (only shorter body length), you can check to see if this is longer than the Mcqueen jacket you've got. There are tons of Toys Mccoy Albert Turner label MA-1 jackets out there on the used market so they can be had for very good prices, in almost new conditions.

Yeah the length of the Steve McQueen MA-1 is: 60 cm (approx. 23.6 inches)

Is there a noticeable difference between the Oiled IH Deck jacket and the regular one? The company's website says that oiling improves water and wind resistance.

Also, their website says that the non-oiled whipcord jacket can be hand-washed. People who own the jacket, what is your recommendation based on experience?

I own the oiled whip cord version and based on what I’ve read it wears about 2oz’s heavier than the non oiled whip cord.

The jacket is incredibly warm and wind resistant due to the interlining between the outer shell and lining. I’m not sure the oiling process adds a ton of value otherwise, but I wanted the sleeker looking version without the D pocket detailing, so oiled was the only way.

I haven’t had to wash mine yet, but my understanding is spot clean with a damp cloth is best .

I think it's a bit big and long.
But I'm not a benchmark because I tend to like shorter and tighter jackets.
Since you're asking, I think you're in doubt. And when in doubt, there is no doubt.

I don't know. I like it because there is room to layer underneath. I think it fits me, but I want to be sure because it's an expensive jacket. I'm mostly concerned about the shoulders, but I think it fits.

That's what I was thinking. I know of a deal for a used navy blue one that I will purchase next week.

As a man who has an IH N-1 in navy and tan I say it sounds good to me. It’s not the same jacket if it’s a different color after all.
