I thought pecan was a shade of brown.
All of the colors vary from one dye batch to the next. You’re also up against the natural variations on how people see colors. One person will see green undertones in the same felt that others don’t see any green...just as an example. Then there’s the differences of how monitors/screens portray colors. Unless you can visit the hatter in person, the best you can hope for is a close approximation of the color you’re after.
I really hope that VS continues the tradition of offering special colors.
My Winchester pecan is brown with fairly strong green tones. I like it, but it’s one of the more divisive colors.
Thank you....I am trying to see the green.
It’s a brown-olive shade of green.
I think I would like that. I think the more I think about the more unsure I am.
Check before you order. The brown toned Granite is a rabbit and the greyer one is full beaver. It may be due to the different animals or just variation of the Winchester dye lots.
I have two of Winchester’s 100% beaver dress weight hats in granite and they are not exactly the same color; one is definitely more brown.
I am completely enamored with the natural felt. I have 2 natural felt hats from 2 different hatters and I love them both.
My pecan fedora is actually one I think of as going well with most anything... brown leather jacket, brown sports coats, green union jacket, my black vest, etc....
Just goes to show how people see colors differently.
I feel the pecan color would go with anything I wear. Have you posted pictures of your pecan hat? Thank you, David
Pretty sure I have.
First 2 are pecan with brown ribbon, 2nd two are natural with slate ribbon.
Thank you!! I am really leaning to the pecan!
Both of your hats are amazing!
There’s a new felt supplier, the Millinery Warehouse, and a representative introduced himself here a couple weeks ago. His fur felt is all 100% rabbit and is sourced from the Ukraine, and he claims it’s much superior to the current rabbit fur felt being offered by Tonak.
Not a huge selection of colors, but some interesting ones. Due to the pandemic etc., not a lot currently in stock, but I was told that more is on its way. I’ve got a 180gram western in bottle green on back order.
And some of the colors I found most interesting:
And more of “my” bottle green:
Dress weights and western weights as well as some velour finishes. The prices are right...and did you see the color of that bottle green!
Here’s a photo provided by Mike at Northwest. The hat body is the bottle green discussed above and the swatch on it is Winchester’s Forest Green.
Pretty close. Winchester makes this color in western weight felt in rabbit and 50/50 rabbit/beaver blend.
More Millinery Warehouse rabbit fur felt colors:
There are repeat colors as these photos are by felt finish (suede, velour, etc.).
Looking at Tonak’s fur felt colors.
Agnoulita’s beaver fur felt colors. Current only available as finished hats and not available as hat bodies. I don’t know who is actually making the felt for Agnoulita, but he is in tight with Tonak.
