Old-style Iron On Transfers

I was looking around at some WWII-era T-shirts and I noticed there were a lot of old squadron shirts that seemed to use an iron on transfer as the logo. I've seen examples of the actual transfer papers from the 40s and 50s which looked like they were on tissue paper.

I'm really curious how these were actually produced, and if it might be possible to recreate that look.
Anyone know about these?

Thanks!
