A bit better "inexpensive hat" fortune today. ( pics are as-is out of the box... nothing done yet) What I believe was probably a Royal Stetson MAYBE a RD ( no liner or sweatband) Couple little nibbles but otherwise felt is clean. Really nice smooth, soft felt that should steam up nicely . Nice medium grey. New sweatband , a new liner, and a bit of hatband ribbon work and it should be good to go. 5" crown and 2-1/2" overwelt brim. Nice triple stitching on brim. Happy with this one

Here is a Royal Stetson Deluxe Vita-Felt I recently picked up on speculation. The size didn’t work out but it is still a very cool hat worthy of sharing imo. :).

My research found that the Vita-Felt process was likely introduced in 1940 and with the 7801 lot number (and other indicators) I believe this to be an early 1940s hat (perhaps 1941 or 1942).

The felt is outstanding and can easily be dry shaped.

Here is a new one I purchased from England (despite the taxes, still a good deal) that arrived unexpectedly early. A Hückel Hornet Super Lux. As for the vintage of hat, I will wait for the experts to weigh in (inside tag shown below), but it is very nice and cleaned up well.

Jeff, Super + interesting find! It was made by Tonak but Tonak is not on the paper label. Tonak used the Hückel name on and off but I am not sure if I have seen a "Hornet Super Lux" before. My guess is it 1970s possibly a bit later.

Thank you, sir. I thought 70's as well. I think, if you do a search of the FL for Hornet Super Lux, you'll find a gentleman who posted a similar hat years ago, but never did post the inside tag, or posted too late in the ongoing conversation for it to make much sense.

Jeff, Most likely Hornet sourced it from Tonak under the Hückel brand name.

Pretty excited about my $27 (shipped!) 3x Stetson eBay win that arrived today. No evidence of any moth damage, needs a good cleaning, sweatband is in great shape.

I’ll post some “after” pics once she’s all gussied up.

This poor little 4x Open Road cried out to me from ebay-land " Please save me before someone distresses me and sticks a buzzard feather on" . It was cheap and except for a couple little spots on the underside of the brim, and a few minor storage creases, its pretty clean... already have the creases steamed smooth and the front brim flattned out a bit. 2-5/8" brim. Just enough taggage inside to verify its a modern Open Road in silverbelly. Nothing spectacular but it fits well and should make a decent coffee hat... in foul weather it could step in and save one of his nicer, older cousins from the elements. Im guessing from 90's- maybe early 2000's? Who recognizes the age from the liner?

No such thing as too many Open Roads lol

Got to thinking I have another OR that has the same liner, felt feels the same.... took a look under the hood and the tag inside has a revision date of 1983.... Still a modern hat but a hair older than I first thought. Now I have a matching pair... one with a fedora bash and a 2-3/4" flat brim, and the new one with a cattlemens crease and a cute little curve to the 2-5/8" brim

Stetson the Sovereign. Made in England under licence, Failsworth i think. Sold once by Meuwsen in the Netherlands. No label inside, so someone know the age of it? My guess, late 50's, early 60's? Some dirt spots on it, i have to clean that. Also tips how to do that properly? Nevertheless it's in a good condition.

Nice find, Marcel.

The Manchester hat makers Failsworth had the Stetson license in England, so it's definitely one of theirs.

I'd place it in the 60s age range.

After a good series of successful ventures, we come to the unsuccessful ones. In this case, it's the size that's completely wrong for my head.
Sud-Ovest Panizza 2.jpg
Panizza Sud-Ovest, created exclusively for the Cabella store in Milan from 1924, still existing under another address.
Sud-Ovest Panizza interno totale.jpg
The internal oval measures 19x16 centimeters, which corresponds approximately to a size 56 cm, or a size 7 in the United States.
Sud-Ovest Panizza marchio negozio.jpg
Judging by the telephone number on the sweatband, the hat dates back to before 1970, the year the geographic area code was introduced in Italy.
Sud-Ovest Panizza 1.jpg

The felt color is "Graffite," and the ribbon is also "Graffite," tone-on-tone, with a wide, pleated ribbon.
The brim measures 5 cm, the ribbon is 5.5 cm high, and the crown is 10.5 cm at its lowest point.
Sud-Ovest Panizza 3.jpg

The felt is a mix; you can see some white threads, and it has a gray sheen like pencil leads.
Sud-Ovest Panizza marchio.jpg
As you can deduce from the writing on the sweatband, it is an "Exclusive Creation" for the shop and I confess that it is the first time I have come across a Panizza Sud-Ovest with its splendid brand.
The hat needs some attention because I think it's suffered quite a bit and, above all, a perfect head for its size.
