Just in case it isn't clear...the pictures below are of the project in its finished state, short of a few minor tweaks.
It has all the features, I'm just working on taking some of the swoop out of the brim, but I think it will always have some. Learning a little bit more with each one. This one is by no means perfect, the brim stitching still needs a little hand sewing touch up, and the star vents show the effects of the punch slipping once or twice, but It was fun!
This is the original I had in mind, in this photo below:
