The Silk/linen Suit

Hello everyone.

I have a black suit made of roughly 50% silk and 50% linen.
Pleated slacks. SB, two button jacket with padded shoulders.
It was made and sold in the '80s.

I'm wondering if the silk/linen suit has any significance or history in vintage/retro wear.

It's almost always quite wrinkled, is it okay to iron?

Also, is it considered dress or casual? Is is best to be worn with a tie or say, with a spread collar? And finally, what type of shoes would go best?

Silk and linen is all the rage at the moment in Italy and the USA....FWIW...treat it like linen ...steam it etc.
