Unexpected Places.

I love when little bits of history pop up in unexpected places. Last May after going to an Italian chalk art festival at the Santa Barbara Mission while walking back to the car I noticed this in a nearby neighborhood.

Makes me wonder who scratched it into the bench - did they make the leaf prints too? The bench was out in front of a house, I wish I would have taken a picture of the house too.

Probably.

Looks like the date was carved into the almost set cement with a stick or a pocket knife, and the fern leaves were probably just placed on and then left there. It's like an artificial fossil, cool idea.
