Got this one in today. shaped it up and cleaned it just a bit. First, out of many, OR styled hats that I’ve ever gotten that didn’t need any kind of work and/or moth damage repair.
It’s also my first 3x BQ Fifteen. I’d guess mid to late 50s.
Nice natural felt on this one.
Won’t sell this’n. :) View attachment 229606 View attachment 229608 View attachment 229609

Definitely a keeper!!
We don’t see 3X Fifteens all that often.
This is a very nice example.
Thanks and enjoy that felt.

Wearing my Sydney today as I walked our dog.

Perfect combination for the task.

French week, deuxième jour.
Arlesia lords hat in brown, restored by Penumbra. A woolfelt lords hat is not very common. The hand of the felt is not as nice as a furfelt, but they sure did some pretty cool stuff with wool back then.

Glorious brown felt and ribbon (basting stitches included).

Barbisio Qualitá Exstra. You know you have too many hats when you find one like this and think, damn, why haven't I worn this one in a while :).

Just kidding, you can never have too many hats ;-)

You always look so sharp. Thanks for pulling up the sartorial appearance on this thread.

Never sell that hat. The 3 15's are rare and glorious. Thanks for sharing such a grand hat. IMO, the dimensions are perfect for you.

The cattleman's crease looks au-natural on your head! Cheers sir!

Pecan Dobbs Twenty.

Fun to see you post this evening sir. The Dobbs and very special t-shirt are just the cat's meow. Cheers Bill.

Best, Eric -

Very nice. I'm really liking that model. Correct me if I'm wrong though, it looks as if the sweatband is showing itself through the felt in the front of the hat.
Let my answer both posts with one.
This is a great sun protection hat. Fantastic, wide flat brim that curves down. This came to me fairly soft but my snow river came very stiff. Depends on the batch and how much stiffener is in it that time. If you get a stiff one it will wear off over time and use. Yes I find all Akubras with a bound brim are thinner felt than non bound. With that said I have not found durability to be an issue either way.
Your second post. That is a mark from my bad habit of stacking my Akubras. Next sweat band pushing on the one under it making that line.
My final observation is choose your colour wisely. Lighter colours are cooler in hot weather. When it’s 20 degrees out I can’t really tell the difference but when it hits 30 the fawn is a little dark/hot for me and my Bran colour Coolabah comes out to play.
Hope that helps.
Johnny

30 Days to 30 Hats - Day 21
Dobbs Gay Prince

B352D544-4DC8-450A-B414-AA2184824056.jpeg

Dobbs Gay Prince
Tan light weight soft felt
4 1/2 crown as bashed at highest point
3/4 self felted ribbon with whip stitched trim
2 3/4 to 2 7/8 brim with whip stitched edge binding

I think this may be 1940s vintage Dobbs Gay Prince. I love the feel of this felt... super thin and extremely moldable. When this hat arrived it had popped its brim stitching so I had to replace it. It has some staining on the liner.. but other than that fantastic shape. I don’t find too much occasion to wear this hat but I really enjoy it.

You'll be killin' me if you post stiff felts all week! Looking good!

J. Hückel´s Söhne were famous for Velour Soft Felt Hats but their Stiff Felt Hats were also very popular. This week I will feature J. Hückel´s Söhne Stiff Felt Hats.

J. Hückel´s Söhne "Flexible", 152 grams possibly early 1930s. I think this a good one to start out with. I found this Stiff Felt back in July 2011.

So I noticed coming home from work today in my mask and hat, I looked like I was about to go pull a Bank Heist.

Gave me the idea to break out the .45 SAA and take some fun pictures:

Our European friends might not know what to think about us Americans and our guns. However, I’ve never seen someone handle a Colt 1873 SAA Peacemaker (are there more names?) and not fall in love. The feel, the sound, the balance...such a great revolver. I’ll take a first generation in 4 5/8” if you come across one that’s mint and cheap :)
