Steve; Thanks for sharing this 50's hat. I do look forward to seeing your hat collection. It expands my horizon. This hat has the characteristic ribbon work the edge treatment is just cool. Fun to see a different hued felt.

It is never a contest just a validation of what we wear. IMO. Repeat away as I totally enjoy your posts. your hats, your wife's hats and the cultural differences of Japan and Minnesota (my neighborhood) I encourage you never to feel embarrassed. Please do not reflect a personal value in comparison to others, especially myself. I have frequent gaps were I just am not able to participate and post on the forum. I too have days were 1 cap or hat is all I have opportunity to wear. This has been frequent the past 2 pandemic years. (My posting not always normal - I agree. I admit I am not normal (life and actions) and my frenetic days certainly are not normal. It is normal for the folks I hang with, but we are self aware that we are indeed not normal. I walk the streets of my neighborhoods knowing that I will stand apart from the norm. This said hat/cap fans in general are not necessarily crowd following folks. I imagine that we have all found a comfortable space that we inhabit. Included is my age and reflection that mostly I do for me and care little about others opinion if what I wear is ok.)

Cheers to all posters on this thread, Eric -
Eric, Thank you! I very much enjoy seeing your collection. The pre 1940 NOS Canadian Soft Felts that you have featured are really special.

Good Staurday morning.

Yesterday evening meeting found me wearing an unlined Stetson Playboy. This hat has a glued in tag. I do need to make time to glue the edges back down. Can you imagine that the tag has only stayed in place 70+ years? ;)

Bowen, I have 5 of them now and am really enjoying them. I think that the felt on all , including the modern one, is far superior to any modern Stetson , Akubra or Optimo that I own, and the vintage ones are pretty comparable to some of my higher end vintage hats. Because I am outside working or on on the tractor most of my time out of the office, I tend to spend most of the time wearing beaters, and the Qulita Extra Superiore is the most luxurious beater I own. All and all I am very much enjoying the Borsalinos, and will prbably pick up more, if the right deal comes along.

I envy you on the Borsalino hunt, Dave. In my years of collecting, I've only found one.

Borsalinos evade me like Wendy Jarrett did in the 10th grade.

Thank you, @Randall Renshaw and @Short Balding Guy for the kind comments. Perhaps embarrassed was not the right word. Maybe just a little sheepish following the magnificent hats on this thread.
As I look back on my last post, I can’t believe I forgot to mention that magnificent straw from @alanfgag.
I started today in my Knox raffia for grocery shopping.

The practical voice inside my head often says, “Why acquire more vintage hats than you need?”
“Why do you keep searching for a better sounding acoustic guitar?”
“There’s no need for another chrome doodad on your motorcycle!”
“Don’t you dare eat that!”
All very good interjections.
Thankfully, the winning voice says, “Shut up and enjoy life when you can!”

That’s a great hat, Jim. Don’t recall you wearing all that many dark hats or seeing this K-F before. New arrival??
Looks so black it’s blue. Love it.
B

Thanks, B. I picked it up last winter. It hasn't gotten a lot of head time over the summer.

And yeah, it's black. Like it might start sucking in stars black.

That is a fabulous hat.

Thanks, Joe!

Oh, BABY! Have a great time and definitely eat too much! It’s a good cannoli day!

Half a muffalata, shared an Italian sausage with onions and peppers, some pasta fagioli, a cannoli, and a fig cookie.

It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it. :D

We're enjoying late summer weather in September here in Denmark with temperatures at 20°+. Far too warm to be wearing a stiff felt, but I just couldn't resist wearing this recent arrival, a 1930s Hückel Bowler.

The bright sunshine brought out its almost NOS condition much better than any other lighting would, so glad I wore this one today even though it wasn't for very long.

Have a great weekend folks. View attachment 360505 View attachment 360506

View attachment 359955 Birthday was in June, but this late 40s/early 50s Mallory XV was worth waiting for.
Best friend from Washington state got this on eBay and sent it a few days ago. Neither of us knew it had a few moth bites when purchased but I Patched the small moth divots, reflanged the brim, steam shaped the crown and took some pics tonight.
Ready to be in my top ten favs.
6” straight sided open crown. 2 7/8” Duplex Edge brim. Perfect.
It had a tired red feather stuck in the bow, so I changed it out for this one. View attachment 359952 View attachment 359954 View attachment 359956 View attachment 359957
Gorgeous hat, Randall. I don't care much for feathers myself, but why not?

Good morning hat folks. Dog soirée in an inky blue homburg.

Off to butcher (next door to a bakery and he opens at 7:00am) and a car wash (my wife's auto) while wearing a Stetson Bantam.

Back from errand and sipping the first morning coffee. Ahhhh. The steam rising from the coffee fogged my camera this morning. Duuuh. Early mornings at this time of the year really present challenges for hat pics.

We don't see you in a homburg all that often, Eric, but when you do wear one we can rest assured it's the same stellar quality as all your hats! Magnificent.
