J. Hückel´s Söhne were famous for Velour Soft Felt Hats but their Stiff Felt Hats were also very popular. This week I will feature J. Hückel´s Söhne Stiff Felt Hats.
J. Hückel´s Söhne Wien, early 1900s. Here is another WWI era or earlier Stiff Felt. Dense felt with a fantastic finish. I really like the form.

What it looked like when I visited Novy Jicin, Czech Republic (prior WWI Neutitschein, Austria) in April 2011. This was the original Villa and unfortunately not in good condition. Fortunately now (2020) is under restoration.

Rolls up inside it’s travel coffin box
This is one of the two infamous Borsalino Coffin box I acquired not too long ago. They are a very cool piece of Borsalino history. From what I’ve been able to gather from Alan F and Stefan these hats were intended to be rolled up and stowed in their coffin travel boxes just long enough for tourists to return home to the US with them. Then they would be taken to a local hatter to be restored to a perfectly blocked shape. These two hats apparently stayed in their boxes for the last several decades. I decided because of their unique nature and that they weren’t a style I would wear regularly I would keep them in this state for posterity and bring them out when the occasion arrives. Today seems just one of those occasions

On the subject of these coffin box hats I recently came across another one (didn't buy it) that still had the original instructions with it. Looks like this:
I think you wouldn't do that every time you decided to wear the hat, which proves to me that these boxes were indeed for transportation (and avoid import taxes).
Very nice, Jim. Resistol did make some awfully good hats in their day.

I grew up in West Texas and went to a certain university in Austin (yet not big on country music), so Willie is pretty near and dear to me. The great thing about him, given your post of him and Ray Charles, is that you can think of any music icon of the last 50 years and he’s done at least one duet with them. Chameleon country jazz music genius.

I guess to keep this post semi-salient to the thread, I wore my silverbelly Akubra Campdraft Deluxe whilst moving half a ton of mulch and latticed brick from the truck to the backyard while listening to Willie.
