What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

New life for this rough and too small vintage Bradford Saddler, (early '60s?). A generous Lounger gifted this one to me. I was glad I could save this one and make it into something else. The old Bradfords are among my favorites. I was able to reuse everything original to the hat except for the sweat, which was rotted out.

That came out great, Terry!
Your RA block block is labeled 58. I would have thought it would be 59 to allow for the sweatband as the finished size is 58. Just curious.

Oh my Mr. Hughes, how impressed would the Good Lord be seeing you make such an effort on the sabbath?
Wool Hornskov for grocery shopping yesterday.

Wool Hornskov for grocery shopping yesterday. Grocery shopping? Looking at that hat and beautiful leather my thoughts were: "How the other half live!"

Thank you, Robert.
I did have a chuckle at your “how the other half live” comment, though. I have a four hat rotation for work, and my other hats get worn on my days off. Since I have a six day work week, my day off is often taken up with chores like grocery shopping, especially since Etsuko doesn’t drive. I used to wear my old Bailey & New York Hats hats for such tasks, but decided some time back that life is too short to wear hats that you don’t enjoy wearing. You still won’t see me in my beaver or beaver-bunny blend Hornskovs for such tasks, though.
As for the leather, I like this jacket a lot, but it’s from a maker (Men’s Bigi) that is, I think, virtually unknown outside Japan. The price was about a tenth of what something like a Real McCoy would cost.

Do you reserve your beaver and beaver blend hats for special occasions? I only wear a few of my hats to work, mostly my Akubras, because any given day could find me in a muddy mess, but I love wearing my beaver and beaver blend hats for every day stuff, and around the house because why not. I have to get that $ per wear down by wearing them every chance I get. :)

I’ve certainly got less precious about wearing them, but I mainly wear the good Hornskovs when we go out or go away for the weekend. I have a few other nice hats to wear for shopping and the like. A few by this place’s standards, that is…an alarming and somewhat silly number by anyone else’s standards. Somehow, it’s not quite enough, though!

No kidding! Around here the few hats I have can hardly be called a collection. I always appreciate your hats and pictures though.
