Fit Check Thread for Jackets

Fit check on my new vintage 60’s Brooks Cafe Racer. It’s got the gold on black tag, but no seem down the back. It’s much lighter than my Aero 30’s half belt in horsehide. I’m not really sure what kind of hide this is but I’ve been assuming cowhide.

I like the RC more, but they do both seem to fit you well. The RC is a more interesting design IMO and the leather looks nicer.

@WolfofStateSt that looks like a good fit other than the sleeves being a bit short, but not a deal breaker imo

@TXG8R looks great overall imo. Maybe a bit snug in the chest when zipped, but if you feel like it's fine, then I'd say it looks good everywhere else. Also could be the angle of the photo. If any jacket is OK to go slimmer on, it's a cafe racer

Personal taste / opinion. Neither of those look good to me, even if they fit you well enough. I've seen many jackets on you that looked much better so these seem redundant.

RC hands down, even if it seems a bit looser at the hem than the Schott.

I think it looks good, but depending on how you want the jacket to fit(room for layering and so on) one size down may be even better(at least a more fitted look)

Do you have any pictures of how a 38 would fit?

I was so excited to try them on at the store that I wasn't able to take pictures of size 38. I am going there today to try them on again and decide. Probably going for size 38, I don't need layering in los angeles and want to wear them as much as possible like my rmc buco j100 that I wear so much like it’s my uniform. Now I will have something to alternate it with

Hi Guys, new here and getting into the world of leather jackets. I just came back from Japan where I bought a Buzz Rickson Roughwear A2 in size 38. I'm about 5'8" fairly slim and 140lbs and I'm wondering if this looks too big? The arms are a bit roomy, torso feels snug when zipped up. My Buzz Rickson peacoat is a 36 that fits really nicely but when I tried on the A2 in size 36 I believe it was a bit too short. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Looking forward to learning

It looks a little big, but with some wear, it may drape more and look less baggy. Also, you have some room for layers. It is hard to have a form-fitting jacket that you can layer with, so I guess you have to pick your poison.

I agree 100%. At some point, you will have to be honest and decide how you will wear the jacket because you can’t have both unless it's made of some new-fangled stretch fabric, which leather is not. I have never purchased a Buzz Rickson coat, but when I bought my Real McCoy’s A2, it was stiff!

Luckily, there is a pretty easy rule of thumb for deciding whether or not to size down or up.

Any shearling-lined coat (like a B3), Deck Jacket, or Parka should comfortably fit a sweater or flannel underneath. These are cold-weather coats, and if it is not cold enough to wear a sweater underneath, you should probably choose a lighter jacket if you have one.

Windbreakers, which, in my opinion, include A2s and double riders, should fit you closer. Maybe there is room for a light sweater, hoodie, or sweatshirt underneath. Think Steve McQueen in The Great Escape. If it is so cold that you have to throw on a monster of a sweater that weighs more than a baby lamb, it is too cold to wear your A2. Grab a warmer jacket.

MA-1 bomber jackets or peacoats can go either way. I like my peacoats to fit me like a blazer or a suit jacket, but they also look lovely over a sweater if you prefer a looser fit.

Again, this is just my personal opinion and layering system.

Edit: I also prefer my MA-1s to fit slim, but I don't think it's wrong to layer under them if that is your thing since they are generally insulated.

@newb it does look a little big to me. Length is tough to tell because you have your shurt untucked so it's a bit tough to judge if a 36 would be too short. A2 jackets are not the most slim anyway though.

Depending on the A2, RMC makes a slim A2; as my limited understanding goes, the original A2s and one-to-one replicas are not the slimmest since these A2s are based on a pattern from the 30s-40s.

Edit: Then again, I just purchased a Monarch G-1 from the 50s, and it fits pretty trim.

To your points about layering -- I live in sunny California and was hoping to wear this with a simple t-shirt. I wore a thick sweatshirt underneath and it was a bit restrictive though. Maybe I should sell this one and get a size 36 to replace it...



took some pics with my shirt tucked in if that helps see the length. when zipped up, the bottom just hits my belt line. I do worry a bit that a 36 might be too short?

No need to reduce the size of the jacket. Try the A2 jacket from another brand

The rainbow country has the much nicer leather but the schott is cheaper (so would get more cash back if I sell the RC)

From these pics the RC looks nicer. I would keep that and sell the Schott.

If you don’t like the baggy fit I don’t think this model is right for you. You say that it feels snug when zipped up. I’m worried a size down will be too tight for you. A2s are baggy and unflattering designs.

I live closer to the North Pole myself, but I’m sure an A2 would work in California, you just need to size down, or maybe consider going with a slimmer cut like Real McCoys if you can.
