Hey all, this is a lambskin Schott P213 (Raven) in size medium that I’m trying to figure out whether to keep or not. I like how it looks zipped up, but I have some questions about it when unzipped. I’m not super familiar with lambskin (thought it requires little to no break in), so maybe it’s just not a good cut for me. I got this new from Nordstrom for over 50% off, so would love to keep it if some of the fit issues will resolve over time — and overall it feels like great quality for the price.

Here’s my two questions:

1) It flares away from my body at the waist (tried to show this in my photos too). I have another lambskin jacket (Todd Snyder Dylan) that drapes beautifully without any break in, but this Schott jacket is definitely a thicker lambskin. Do you think it will eventually drape better and fit closer to my body?

2) It’s pretty wavy on the front facing of the jacket on both sides. Will this also go away with time? Or would some light steam help?

Thank you in advance for any input!

In my eyes it looks great! the fit is spot on and I'm pretty sure it'll drape even better with some use!

Can't say about the "waveing" but that looks very normal to me, but same here really, it'll look more "natural" after some wear, so I would not recommend using steam(rather just use the jacket :) )!

My 2 cents!

Zipped up, the jacket looks like it has an 'A' shape from chest down, i.e. slim chest and flares out towards the hem.
This likely causes the front to flare away around the waist.
Personally, not a fan of the 'A' shaped patterns. There's some bona fide Schott pattern experts who can probably recommend something your way.

What waves are you referring to? The folds on the chest area?
If so, there is some extra fabric there to enable you to move your arms around and is necessary.
This won't go away over time - it's a feature, not a bug.

Sorry I think I used the wrong terminology, but I was referring to that piece of leather that’s next to the zipper (on the left side of the jacket when viewing the photo). Instead of it draping straight down, the leather is very wavy there. Just wasn’t sure if that is something that will eventually straighten out with wear and break in

And I totally see what you mean on the A-shape of the jacket too! I didn’t realize that, but it makes sense that it can cause that flare at the bottom. I have a cowhide jacket that was similar at first, and it has gotten a lot better after breaking it in — so hopefully this would do the same as it conforms to my body over time

Yeah, it's wavy there. You can moisten the leather and let it dry between two books (for weight), and it should straighten right out. If you decide to do it, make sure to put something between the leather and the book, so there will be no color transfer. Maybe some clear plastic film.

Oh that’s a great idea — thank you!

Interested in hearing your thoughts on this Mister Freedom Randall’s jacket length (should the jeans’ belt be showing from the back?). This is a tag size 36, with the provided measurement of 22.5” length. I’m 5’8.5” and don’t ride (if that’s helpful). I’m considering ordering a Tenjin Works jacket with its length altered (default length for size JP 40 is 25.2”—yikes), so your thoughts on length would be greatly appreciated!

@jchance that's how this style of jacket should fit in my opinion. Can't comment on whether the Tenjin Works jacket should be the same length or not as you haven't mentioned the model you are considering.

I’m considering the JW-02, it’s a D-pocket crosszip, shown in the pics. It’s pretty horizontally straight across, which I find pretty weird. There’s a belt in the front so I guess one shouldn’t go above the belt, otherwise it’s a double-belted look.

I also added some pics founded on their instagram of this model being worn, not sure if length was altered.

@jchance Okay so you're going for their d-pocket style.
First confirm how they are measuring "default length for size JP 40 is 25.2”—yikes".
Perhaps they are including the collar in that?
I'm also ~5.8" similar to you and for a cross zip I'd go for something like 23.5" back (without the collar), but anything between 23 and 24" would likely work fine depending on the trousers that I'd be wearing.
Obviously body length is extremely taste based and subjective but I feel like a cross zip should be just a little bit longer than that MF jacket.
Although a Vanson C2 in our size regularly comes in at 22" back length, especially the vintage ones.
While a Vanson commando has around 26.5-27" back length.
So yeah, anything goes!
In terms of objectiveness/practicality - it mainly influences how the jacket (especially if it's thick and stiff leather) behaves when you sit down zipped up.

Thanks. I think the JW-02’s horizontally straight-across-front-and-back looks more like a Vanson C2 than the Vanson Commando or Cal CHP/LAPD’s curved back, which makes sense why it is a bit longer. If anything, I’d go for the Vanson C2 look with the JW-02. I personally find shorter-length jacket (vintage style, unlike American’s preference) look more attractive.

It is typical for JP to measure back length from the bottom of the neck, but I agree that I’d have to confirm with them.

Tenjin’s leather is cowhide, at 1.6mm or 3.5oz, so it’s fairly thick. Does that favor shorter or longer length?

Definitely go for shorter if you prefer the look.
Just make sure it's narrow enough at the hem, otherwise you'll end up with a funny cropped wide hem jacket.
Thicker leather definitely demands shorter length as it will be stubborn and refuse to fold/bend at the waist and will lift your shoulders or even choke you (if fully zipped up) when you sit down.

I would say that the length of that jacket is perfect mate! short and very much how I like most leather jackets to fit(with some exceptions ofc), as a shorter jacket really makes your proportions looking amazing :)

Vanson model A size 40

The jacket in the pictures is in the newer competition weight. Fit feels right, and so does the mobility. Previously I tried on a firenze model A, which is lighter weight. I will be placing a custom order in a lighter, and softer leather. Either one of their Roma offerings, or the Vancouver cowhide that Thurston Bros has. Already I like the fit, but I think I can expect even better drape and shape with the different leather.

How would a 38 look? I think arms and hem might be a tad long, I am personally not bothered with the hem but the sleeves I'm not so convinced. A 38 might perhaps be too tight, though.
