Can I get a fit check on this short sleeve fatigue overshirt/shirt jacket?

Trying something new here - a video fit check!
I feel like seeing the jacket in motion gives a much better idea of how it fits.
This is a 36 Aero Cafe Racer with a full action back.
From my perspective it's rather roomy, but not awfully so, with a t-shirt and rather lovely with a sweater!
Sorry for the shorts, but it's currently super hot here.
Let me know what you think about the fit and the fit check format :)

I think it looks great both with and without the sweater. I rather pictures as you can get stills to look closer at specific things but, at the same time, on video it is easier to appreciate how CXL is basically a stiff armor on the body.

In most cases yes, CXL is rather stiff like armor, but it does get better with time. My brown CXL hooch hauler used to be much more stiff than now. I'm hoping the CR will also soften quite a bit as it breaks in, but I don't particularly mind the current stiffness either. On the other hand the pair of Willie's engineer boots in brown CXL that I received recently are much more soft and supple than I expected (especially compared to the previous pair that I received and had to send back).

Thank you. It’s a reproduction US Navy UDT Canteen watch. You find them on e-Bay for about $100, which for watches is pretty cheap.

Hi all -

I’ve been surfing the forums for awhile and finally pulled the trigger to purchase my first leather jacket which will be an aero highwayman in brown chromexcel (still deciding on steerhide or horsehide). I’m based in the US so I went through Thurston Bros to get a fit jacket to get the process started.

I was wondering if you could help me with some advice to ensure I have a good custom fit.

Stats: I have a 42” chest and 32” inch waist and based on Aeros recommendation I went a size down to a 40. I think the fit jacket in size 40 is comfortable in the chest, neck and armhole areas but I believe it may be a bit too long in jacket length and sleeves. It could probably use a taper as well based on what I’ve seen on the forums for others?

Appreciate your insight and help in advance!

-DM

Hey, welcome. Sorry to say, but the jacket is 1-2 sizes too big on you everywhere. Most obvious is the sleeve length and back length, but even the shoulder and chest are too roomy. There is even a gap at the waist. Is this the fit jacket or the bought jacket?

This is a Highwayman. It's supposed to have a cropped, boxy fit.

The only thing wrong here is the body and sleeve length. Both need to be shorter.

Here’s a good fit on the Aero Highwayman. The OP doesn’t look like that outside of sleeve length and body length, even if those two dimensions were altered. He needs to go down at least another size all around, no?

Hey, thanks for the feedback. This is just the fit jacket in a size 40.

I think this is the premier highwayman which has a snugger fit. My worry going down a size or two is it will cause the shoulders, arms and chest to be uncomfortable and too tight. But maybe I can try a fit jacket one size down

Idk, you look like you could be swimming in that jacket zipped up—there is too much air space inside. Do you plan to wear your jacket zipped or unzipped? I always wear my jacket unzipped so I could go even smaller than usual for a more fitted look.

The back is most obvious where there is so much space. It should be tapered like where I’ve drawn red.

Here is another example of Aero Highwayman. See where I circled red, the shoulder seam is vertical. Yours is a bit diagonal. That means your jacket’s shoulder is too wide.

Sizing down on the Highwayman like Thurston recommends just ends up looking bad. (It was a trend on TFL several years ago.) If you want to wear a trimmer fitted reimagining of the concept, there's the Premier Highwayman for that.

No, it just means it's a bigger, drapey fit. The drop shoulder and chest drape are intentional. Also the jacket in this photo is very broken in, whereas OP has big stiff panels still.

Not all jackets are supposed to fit the same.
