N. Peal?

They are supposed to fit fairly close, though that does look a bit too small for you. I wore them a lot back in my army days, where the fit was a little more forgiving. Definitely not sloppy, but also not skin-tight.

I got a Woolly Pully ‘Bond’ commando sweater that’s fairly similar (no cashmere, obviously) and it’s also a bit too slim for me.

Yes, N. Peal. I have a few of their sweaters, I checked the rest are all size large.

Daniel Craig wore his pretty tight in the film, so I’m guessing that’s the intended fit. As long as you are comfortable on it then it’s on spec!
Yeah, sleeve openings are a little tight to get my hands in and out of and I was worried the sleeves were a little short.

I just noticed that. Usually they are made to be cuffed a few inches - sort of a one size fits all. But it looks like N.Peal didn’t design these to be cuffed and actually made them rather short:

Yeah I actually asked them if they would do an alteration to make the sleeve’s longer and wider and they said the cuffs are structurally important and can’t be altered.

Idk, with a white long sleeve shirt under I get the same look as Craig in the picture, with a little white poking out from under the sleeves.

When I look at the product photos and then see Bond with the same jumper, it seems like two different jumpers. It looks cool on him ;)

Thanks so much for your input guys. I’m going to the Schott store tomorrow to try on a bunch of sizes and other cafe racers for comparison. My only issue is this one is the caf1, which they don’t make anymore. I’m wondering if anyone knows how the taper on that compares to the normal models like the 530 or the mission. I measured my caf1 and it’s almost no taper at all, and this feels good in the shoulders but a bit loose around the stomach… so I’m thinking that one with more of a taper would be better for me.

CAF1 is the old Bates cafe racer pattern. The fit is spot on.

Hello - Long time lurker and very occasional poster here. Looking for some second opinion from the experienced members of this esteemed forum.

I’m 6’1, 177lbs with a 41 chest and 30 waist. The jacket is a Chinese RC Hercules replica (very decent leather and stitching for the price IMO) size 42 (XL).
Measurements are as follows: PTP 22”, shoulders 19”, sleeves: 24.5”, back length 24.75”, front length: 26.5”; hem 21”.

Note the pants are relatively high waist chinos (12” front rise)

It feels roomier than my other leather jackets (I wear a size 40 RMC Steinbeck for e.g) but I can’t size down as the chest and sleeves might I become too compromised (size 40 has a 21.25” PTP and 24” sleeve).

In the pics I’ve also tightened the side cinch which is likely how I’ll be wearing it.

I can’t return this jacket and will likely be wearing it regardless - especially when I want to layer - but would love to get your perspective on the fit.

Many thanks in advance!

I think it looks good. A bit boxy in the last pic as you're extending your arms, but that's clearly caused by your movement. Sizing down would likely be uncomfortable.

Sounds like the only "problem" is that your other jackets feel different and that's what put the doubt in your mind.

It looks good to me. You’ve got room to layer and the leather will settle with wear. My RC is looks a little roomy in the chest - it’s an inverted triangle kind of fit, after all.

I’d agree that the fit appears to be just fine, although for a half belt jacket the side cinch straps are placed in an unusual position.
Normally, with this style of jacket the side cinch straps are level with the half belt, and when tightened they can give the waist a more flattering look. But with a Hercules jacket the side straps are at the bottom of the hem, similar to a Highwayman, and this can sometimes lead to a ballooning effect.

Thanks Zoro. While I’m generally OK with the fit, 2 aspects in particular are making me doubt it a bit:
1- more room than I’m used to (you’re right) particularly for a 1930s HB which is supposed to be closer fitting (if literature is to be believed)
2- the length: it covers my jeans pocket front and back and I need to unzip it before sitting otherwise the leather will bunch up.

Neither are deal-breaker but I want to see what others thought of it.

Thanks Pandemic. What is the ‘inverted triangle’ in terms of fits: wider at the hem than in the chest?
