Fit Check Thread for Jackets

Agree that sizing down would be a mistake here.

Sleeves and length need to be shorter obviously but other than that it looks good to my eye.
Jackets can always look.a bit more boxy prior to breaking in/decent amount of wearing time.
Some people look like a bit drowned by the highwayman, I really don't think that is the case at all for you. Just shorter sleeves and length and then wear the heck out of it.

Idk, you look like you could be swimming in that jacket zipped up—there is too much air space inside. Do you plan to wear your jacket zipped or unzipped? I always wear my jacket unzipped so I could go even smaller than usual for a more fitted look.

The back is most obvious where there is so much space. It should be tapered like where I’ve drawn red.

Here is another example of Aero Highwayman. See where I circled red, the shoulder seam is vertical. Yours is a bit diagonal. That means your jacket’s shoulder is too wide.

I see your point on the back. It definitely looks a bit more like a turtle shell but I wonder if a taper would help with that? I think the shoulders on the 40 are good for me. I would hate to size down and not be able to reach the handle bars on my motorcycle.

I believe that a proper back length will help the “turtle shell” effect. I agree with those who say the jacket fits other than sleeve/body length. If you’re able, you could always try the 38 fit jacket to eliminate any doubts if you have any. Sounds like you’ll be riding in your highwayman, and I’ll say my only regret with my previous standard HWM as a riding jacket was the lack of zippered sleeves for controlling air flow. I would have definitely spec’d zipped sleeves if I had custom ordered.

Thanks for the feedback, man! think I feel pretty confident now in the size 40 after trying it on a few more times. Knowing how I am with suit jackets, I would hate to have less room in the shoulders and chest area.

I’m planning to do button cuffs and use this jacket for joy rides on the back roads. I have another jacket for long distance and highway driving that has zips and armor if needed.

Could hemming the bottom as well assist a bit further? I know the jacket will also break in and mold to the body over time too so I don’t want to do too aggressive of a taper.

I wouldn’t want to go too crazy with body taper, but if you can’t get the hem adjusted properly with the adj. buckles, I’d ask Carrie what she recommends there.. I’d say your fit jacket is AT LEAST an inch too long in the body.

I would say it's not just 1 inch too long, but rather 2-4 inches.
I think a classic highwayman should be short, like a trucker jacket. I am relatively confident that the turtle effect will then be less. Making the jacket tapered won't help much. The pattern is not made for that. That's what the Premier version is for.
However, P2P may be a little big for you and so a size smaller could be worth a try.

I think this is the premier highwayman which has a snugger fit. My worry going down a size or two is it will cause the shoulders, arms and chest to be uncomfortable and too tight. But maybe I can try a fit jacket one size down

My first Aero was a Highwayman i bought straight from Aero and i remember that i thought their recommendation seemed bigger than i'd like. Took a chance and really gave it a fair shot before selling down the line, it ended up collecting dust in the closet because i just didnøt think it fit. I'm a 42 chest and bought it in a size 42. It's always good to keep in mind with Aero, that their sizes correspond with the age that jackets belong to. HWM belongning to the 50s means that i'd be larger than TTS as was the style of the day. Hence why the HWM is really quite big IMO when going TTS. Years later i had a chance to put on a brand new 40 and even 38, completely stock - I could have made both of them work, without a doubt. If you have the opportunity to go a size down, i think you can do that without issue - maybe even 2.

I don’t own a Highwayman so my opinion was just a general thought on fitting. You should put more weight to the opinions of those who actually own a Highwayman from their experiences.

You can try retaking the fit pics by using the side adjusters and patting the jacket down to remove some air, as if it would be after it drapes to your body. Maybe that could help us visualize the jacket a bit better.

At the end of the day, it’s your jacket and you gotta be honest with yourself the fit you’d like, the functions you’d use the jacket for (given that you ride), and if there’s any doubts in your mind as to any unhappiness you may have from wearing the jacket.

Hey all,

I recently picked up my first Aero from stock. It's a 38 Highwayman in Vincenza. Sadly, the sleeves are too short for my preference so I've moved it along. I did take some fit photos for reference though. I am curious how others think it fits? I know the highwayman is a boxier cut and I think aside from the sleeves the stock fit here works reasonably well for me. What do you think?

Looking at placing a custom order via Aero at some point in the future, so opinions are helpful to make sure I get the right fit. Thanks.

Sleeves perhaps a tad short, but nothing dealbreaking IMO. For me the dealbreaker is that this pattern is totally unflattering on you, makes you look chonky. I would look for a slimmer fit jacket.

Hi all -

I’ve been surfing the forums for awhile and finally pulled the trigger to purchase my first leather jacket which will be an aero highwayman in brown chromexcel (still deciding on steerhide or horsehide). I’m based in the US so I went through Thurston Bros to get a fit jacket to get the process started.

I was wondering if you could help me with some advice to ensure I have a good custom fit.

Stats: I have a 42” chest and 32” inch waist and based on Aeros recommendation I went a size down to a 40. I think the fit jacket in size 40 is comfortable in the chest, neck and armhole areas but I believe it may be a bit too long in jacket length and sleeves. It could probably use a taper as well based on what I’ve seen on the forums for others?

Appreciate your insight and help in advance!

It looks too big overall, both width and lenght.
I’m also concerned about how it fits you around the neck opening. Weird bulges of leather in that area.

Here’s a good fit on the Aero Highwayman. The OP doesn’t look like that outside of sleeve length and body length, even if those two dimensions were altered. He needs to go down at least another size all around, no?

I’d agree with you that for a cafe/board racer style jacket it does look a little loose in the body.
I believe some call these type of jackets ‘racing shirts’ and as such they are normally quite tight fitting and really follow the form of the chest, waist and hips with a noticeable taper.
