Found this highwayman for a good price, its 15 years old, so already nicely broken in.

Took a bit of a gamble since this is my first leather jacket and had to assume what meassurments would be good, but i guess it worked out well.

Nice. Sleeve length and back length look good. Could you tighten the side straps all the way for a smaller waist, and repost the fit pics? Unless you like it boxy, that is. There’s too much room in the back, evident by the leather folding.

I'm not a fan of the Highwayman, but in your case I think it looks good in the current fashion trend of oversized clothes. It goes well along the also oversized trousers, my concern would be how it would look if you worn something more slim fitting.

For me a 50s style jacket which is meant to be boxy, looks better with era appropriate styles like straight cut jeans/ trousers with a higher rise

If you like modern slim fit i wouldn't even try a highwayman, especially if you start downsizing and altering jackets in length etc. to fit more slim and tight.
It kind of goes against the whole idea of what the jacket was designed for.

Hello everyone, this is my 1st post and I got this aero jacket online for a good deal. I’m just wondering if anyone knows which model it is and if the fit is right on the money or if it’s a bit too short and tight. I know horsehide is hard to break in, but I love the feel and how heavy it is. Thank you for all the help!!

Sleeve length is fine, shoulder seam I would have prefer to be slightly higher up, just barely 1-1.5cm.

Front looks fine, but there’s a lot of room in the back. Trucker is usually boxy cut, if that’s what you’re going for. You could try tightening the side adjusters’ buttons. But I would have sized down one more size because I like a tighter fit. I wear my jacket unbuttoned so I like the fit to be so tight that I can barely button them.

Back length is slightly long for my taste, but JP jackets have 1-2” too long back length. It’s not the end of the world, especially for a tall person like yourself.

Overall, it’s a sweater-underneath fit, not tshirt fit like what you’re wearing.

Shoulders too droopy.
Back has a lot of extra material doing nothing to enhance the silhouette.

I'll second the work jacket comment. It is super comfy and easy to move around it, I guess what I am wrestling with is if it looks too large for day to day wear.

It doesn’t look bad, but it’s not a date-night / best-outfit look. It works as a day-to-day wear, something you’d be comfortable wearing all day every day, to move around in, to go get gas or grocery, to do errands generally without feeling the jacket is even there.

But you’re asking the wrong question in the wrong thread. Here is where we nitpick apart your leather jacket currently worn without movement taken with pics from various angles (that’s why the other poster and I said the same things in different words), whereas most people don’t even pay attention to your jacket in motion. I’d say 90% there. Wear it with confidence.

A perfect fit here would be uncomfortable to move in. That’s for the runway, not for the day-to-day use.

Today wearing the Highwaymam with some white sneakers and a baseball cap felt really good. I think that’s where this jacket lives.

That's the crux of it. When you're taking on a style based on a very specific period design, you need to find what works best with it, which is usually what it was most likely to be work with at the time in terms of cut and style. I've worn a Highwayman with a collar and tie, but it didn't really feel right - a bit too much like I was an extra on The Sweeney. Mine always felt best in the denims / slacks and a casual shirt or sweater underneath.

It doesn't look wrong, though the question to ask is whether it's a struggle to get on and off, does it feel restrictive, do you have to **** in a lot to get it fastened? It's outwear, remember - not a corset. As my wife once said to me "Don't assume it fits just because you can do it up." If you're able to wear it over whatever you want to wear it over (IMO this is very much a style that favours a casual look with a collarless shirt or tshirt) without feeling restricted or being aware of it affecting your movements all the time, then I'd see that as a the indication of a good fit.

Looks like how it should fit to me.

Agreed. Back in the Lauder "Anything Goes" years at Galashiels I more than once saw folks trying to spec out a Highwayman style jacket that was much slimmer cut. It never quite looked right to my eye - more often than not ended up looking like a jacket that was meant to be boxy worn a size too small. More early Joey Ramone than Brando, so to speak. That of course is why other styles based on the HWM like the Premier version (the HWM had it been designed in the 30s) or the Original 59er (an exact repop of the Rivett's of Leytonstone Highwayman branded jacket that inspired the first Aero Highwayman in 1983; the Aero design was deliberately made a little boxier for what became the model we now think of as the Standard Highwayman to ape a specific American styling of the 50s rather than the neater-cut British rocker jackets, this specific Highwayman model having been in production by 1959 and bearing a very strong resemblance to the Corsair and Dominator styles Lewis would introduce in 1962).

So I’ve had my Aero 1930’s Premier Highwayman in FQHH for about a year now. I know it’s not really a riding jacket but I had gussets out on the back and it seems to work for me. The break in has been brutal. I live in the Arizona desert, so not a lot of wear time due to the heat. I have noticed since it has cooled down some that using the jacket for riding has really started to loosen up the leather and make it more comfortable. I do love the jacket but have been bitten by the leather jacket bug and think I need a black half belt style jacket, hmmm….anyways, what do you guys think of the fit?

9/10 I'd say, close to perfect in terms of looks. Comfort and mobility is a different question. I'd love my CR to fit me like that.

6-7/10 too wide in the shoulders, too short in the sleeves, body width is boxy as you would expect from a highwayman, but some fill it out out better, some worse. Worse in your case. I really feel like this model works best for folks with quite a bit of extra real estate in the mid section. Not flattering at all on slimmer people.

7-8/10 it's meantto be very short but I'm not a big fan of that, good in the shoulders and sleeve length (although I'd a go a touch longer). Too wide in the mid body. My friend has the same Elvis model, doesn't look better on him either. This is more or less as good as you can look in this model unless you have a real short torso and massive lats.

6-7/10 a bit too wide in the shoulders, too long in the body and sleeves (but sleeve length relates to shoulder width). And you didn't provide any buttoned up pictures so hard to get a good idea regarding body width. Not good proportions for a type 1 in my opinion as far as body length goes.

@jtmac71 Hard to say much from that one photo, body lenght looks good to me but I'd like longer sleeves for riding (and not buttoned ones). Maybe a bit wide in the shoulders from that picture.

Somehow, it would be more practical if you had quoted the original posts. As it is, it's quite tedious to find what you're referring to. At least when it's a few pages back.
