I just saw Rodney Crowell at the Kenworthy, our 1925 era theater. It was a solo show reading from his new book "Chinaberry Sidewalks" & singing songs old and new.

Not golden era but...

I saw Blue Man Group last night for the first time. Amazing is all I can say. About 20 years ago me and friend were hanging out and saw these freaking looking guys show up on the TV screen. At first we were both like, "What's up with these guys?" By the end of that tv spot we were fans but never saw them until last night. We took the wives and they agreed it was great entertainment, even for a generation that has nearly amused itself to death.

It was like a rock concert, comedy show, and electric kool-aide all in one. I thought it was interesting how they used modern technology to make fun of modern technology.

took my son to the Soundwave festival last Saturday. We saw bands like Monster Magnet, Devildriver, Slash, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Queens of the Stone Age, Coheed and Cambria, Slayer, Rob Zombie, with Iron Maiden playing a 2 hour set to close out the day.

There many, many more bands (6 stages going almost constantly) but those are the ones that stood out

4/3/2011: Just saw the California Pops Orchestra's "Tribute to the Big Bands" concert!! Our family has volunteered for them the last three seasons. 68 musicians on stage yesterday, I almost started to cry when the string section came in on "Moonlight Serenade"...

We just got in from seeing Clyde "Pop" Ferguson, an absolutely fantastic 83 year-old blues musician. Great old-time blues sounds from the 1920's through the 1950's. Pop Ferguson played guitar for the late Etta Baker.

This afternoon I'm going to see the Errol Buddle Quintet. Errol has played with Frank Sinatra, Billie Holliday, Sammy Davis Jr and Nat King Cole. He's 83 & still going strong. I saw him last year & really enjoyed the gig, so I'm looking forward to seeing him again.

Sunday afternoon June 12, 2011. The final concert of the 2010-2011 season of the California Pops Orchestra that I and my two teens volunteer for. The guest soloist was singer and Broadway actor Pierce Peter Brant, excellent as always! 65+ great musicians make up the CA Pops under the direction and baton of Maestro Kim Venaas. Wonderful, wonderful music. Everything from the service songs of each branch of the military, Glenn Miller's American Patrol, Stars and Stripes Forever, Being Alive by Stephen Sondheim, God bless America, Chicken in the Straw, to I've Got You Under My Skin.

Chita was amazing, 78 yo going on 45, she was on stage for 1hour and ten minutes, no break, didn't even stop for a glass of water!!! dancing, singing , telling jokes, reminiscing about "West Side Story" in 1957 which she stared in!

The last show I paid to see was Cannibal Corpse in Des Moines, and Marduk just a few weeks before that. We never usually get top acts through here because we're considered a "B Venue".

Just got back from seeing The Blanks, acappella band, mainly famous fir having Ted from Scrubs in it. Went as a friend had a spare ticket, but really good and actually funny! That's the warm up for Glastonbury this weekend, so many bands and other stuff there, as long as it doesn't rain too much it'll be great!!!
