This pic of an Old Joe Perkins tin sign is from an auction catalog about a yr ago. Faded across the top it says Old Joe Perkins Whiskey & if you enlarge the dog you can see she carries a bottle of Old Joe Perkins with a soft mouth.

Jack looks like an enjoyable way to enjoy a derby. But I do enjoy your posts with the unique glasses, paraphernalia, backdrops and the like. Tonight as I do many an evening I am googling up your whiskey choice. Thanks again for sharing and upping my liquor knowledge.

Looks like a worthy beer to "sneak" out for! I read it is a dry stout. Sounds like a good choice for cool weather December.

Tonight I am home working through strategies of opening the business after our state closure date (12/18/20) and of course not re-opening until after 1/1/21. Walking the yard sipping an All Day IPA is helping.

If I can stay alert and awake, we should be able to see Northern Lights after midnight. I am hopefully,but not not confident.

Thanks Eric. I've always been interested in collecting saloon, gaming & gambling, pool & billiard items. And enjoy photography so always interested in using those things in the composition for an old time look.

Since you mentioned giving a bottle of Ardbeg Wee Beastie for a
Christmas gift I wanted to let you know it is starting to be hard to find & slow coming in. I placed a mix & match 4 bottle case order with Ace on 11/30 which still hasn't shipped. I called them yesterday & Mason said they are waiting on the Wee Beastie from the distributor. So if you were thinking of it as a last minute gift you might want to get one on order.

Today deserved a hard to acquire bottle in honor of a game that has been played every year for the past 102 years. Widely considered to be one of the greatest rivalries in college sports, the Ohio State vs. Michigan game was scheduled to be played today but was cancelled this year due to coronavirus concerns. It's a hard pill to swallow, but ultimately there are bigger concerns than playing a football game. Today I'll knock a few back in honor of all the traditions both on and off the field. O - H!

Yesterday's Surley Delicious IPA. This beer was imbibed early morning after going out and getting some half and half for breakfast coffee. I poured a cup and added half and half drank some and discovered that the half and half was bad. Yuck. It is hard to lose the taste of spoiled milk. I discovered an IPA works to remove the fowl taste.

Grilling some lunch while sipping a Guinness Extra Stout. Excellent coffee with half and half this morning.

The wind started and the temps dropped before the light snow fell this afternoon. I was out enjoying an Omni IPA.

I completed moving the light snow on the driveway and walkways and sipping a cup of Kumsi Tea (loose leaf black). I did add a dab of our neighbors honey.

Tonight is a Guinness Draught kind of evening. The 12'f (-11'c) temps have me savoring the cool taste. Dry with a less full taste and less ABV than the stout version.

I spoke to the Guinness rep and he said the Guinness Stout, compared to Draught, is more "stouty." At first this was not helpful, but on reflection I agree. The more sugar content in the extra stout during its brewing makes a difference.

Post pandemic my wife has agreed with me our first trip should be a visit to Ireland/Scotland and then head over to Scandinavia. Little does she know my high priorities are to visit to sample Guinness and whiskeys before a visit to relatives and sites in Scandinavia.

NBD! Received a Christmas gift today, a bottle of Craigellachie 13 Speyside Single Malt Scotch. This is a new one to me & I was anxious to try a dram. 92 proof, Non-chill filtered, beautiful color!

Consistently scores 89-90. I definitely get the dried fruit & honey, vanilla & spice, Oakwood & Bourbon. A touch of Sherry.

I am reading reviews about it on-line. Man that sounds like another whiskey to inquire about.

Jack is this a whiskey that you would buy again? Stock on your whiskey shelf?

Jack thanks for the update about Beastie. I did get a bottle from our local big box liquor store, Total Wines and More. I only saw the one bottle on the shelf and did not inquiry further. My brother in-law darn better consider himself lucky. His gifts are all things I would enjoy.

I got home this late evening and am sampling an offering from a local brewery - Surley Brewing. Rocket Surgery is enjoyable. Enjoyable and a very subtle beer. Nothing standout, but I think that that is a desirable feature sometimes. It is a hazy IPA with Citra and Simcoe hops. The more I sample different beers, the more I am paying attention to the hops they use. I am seeing patterns that I enjoy. My first world opportunity is that I have a beer refrigerator fully stocked and I can choose a beverage based upon whim or the moment's preference. I like my first world beer opportunity.

Thanks Eric. A gift from a man I held in the hospital the very day he was born; the son of my former business partner. His father died a couple of yrs ago from lymphoma.

I enjoyed my first evening with the Craigellachie very much. It's a bit upfront from vanilla maybe the first couple of sips but then it settles in. Overall it's very mild & I would guess it's used in a lot of blends. The Peat, Bourbon & Sherry are all very mild. You get mostly dried fruit, nuts, some Oak & woodiness. The dried fruit reminds me a lot of the Speyburn 10. No medicinal alcohol taste but has a nice warming effect. At this point I'm thinking it could replace my Cragganmore 12 & at a better price point. Or maybe I'll rotate them.

Glad you found the Wee Beastie. I'm still waiting on a couple of orders from Ace. Mason indicated they might get a big shipment last Fri. I told him if he had plenty of stock then just duplicate my original 4 bottle case order with another order right behind it. So far nothing has shipped. Was originally just trying to get everything in before the Christmas rush & the weather turned off bad.

Obviously Goose Island is not that old. I have a few old church keys, one from the old liquor store that was in my home town. But that's it. I would be interested in seeing some of your's.
